Sie sind Teil der Tierschalen-Serie, die die niederländische Designerin Hella Jongerius 2004 und 2012 für die Porzellanmanufaktur Nymphenburg gestaltete.

Die Tierschalen bestehen aus jeweils ein nach historischem Vorbild modelliertes Tier in der Mitte einer fast schon minimalistisch anmutenden Schale. Verziert sind die detailgetreu gefertigten Tierfiguren mit Mustern aus dem Nymphenburg-Malereiarchiv und verleihen den naturalistischen Tieren das gewisse Etwas – und tragen ganz unmissverständlich die Handschrift von Hella Jongerius, die für ihre Liebe zu Mustern bekannt ist.
