Reading Quintilian: Didactic Authority in the Institutio OratoriaReading Quintilian takes Quintilian's Institutio oratoria as a coherent literary work: one worth reading in full. Reading Quintilian takes Quintilian's Institutio oratoria as a coherent literary work: one worth reading in full. This book examines how didactic authority is created and how readers are guided through the Institutio thanks to an overarching framework that holds it together. This framework is composed of several leitmotifs: the author's self-staging, statements of didactic intent and method, the depiction of an ideal didactic constellation, remarks suggesting that the work proceeds in parallel with the pupil's training and the author's life, polemics against other authorities, and proleptic strategies deflecting responsibility for students' potential failures. As Reading Quintilian shows, the pervasiveness of that framework, and the implementation in the Institutio of the same rhetorical strategies it describes, indicate that the work is not a mere accumulation of precepts, but an artfully crafted whole. All the stops of rhetorical art are pulled out to engage readers and to persuade them that the teachings conveyed are valid. Laura Loporcaro grounds her analysis of the leitmotifs in the discussion of central themes, including Quintilian's reception of Cicero and Seneca the Younger, his conception of the ideal orator, and his polemic against 'corrupt' oratory. Combining a panoramic view with in-depth study of single leitmotifs and themes, Reading Quintilian investigates the construction, goals, and models of the Institutio, thereby shedding new light on the treatise as a whole.

Great Value! Great Printer
THE ONLY reason I can't give it a five is because it is the only printer I have ever seen with two trays that you have to print one or the other. Aside from that, BEST Scanner App EVER! Easy!! Hardly ever jams and then only when I put too many in, rushing to finish. The quality is fantastic!

Hands down, the WORST printer I have ever owned. In THIRTY years.
I love Epson print quality so when my Epson finally bit the dust I HAD TO have another Epson. After lots of research I bought this one. It takes FOREVER to wake up and print. It shouldn’t take 5 minutes to wake up. I am a VERY light user. At the time of this initial review I'd maybe printed 500 pages total, so it's not like this thing has been put through the ringer or anything. This thing CONSTANTLY jams. Or says it’s jammed. It may or may not be. But you’ll have to go through the motions every time you want to use it anyhow. It burns through ink faster than a cracked out toddler dumping paint all over the floors and walls. WHEN ONE COLOR RUNS OUT YOU CAN NO LONGER PRINT B&W I’m sure there are more reasons why I hate this printer, I’ll try to come back to add them if I think of them. THIS PRINTER HAS INSPIRED ME TO DISASSEMBLE MY OLD EPSON AND BECOME A PRINTER REPAIR TECH IN MY FREE TIME IN HOPES OF GETTING THAT ONE TO WORK. I don’t recommend that route either. I think Epson has lost me forever. All I want is a printer with their great print quality, two paper trays that accept different sizes, and a rear loader for heavier paper, that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. My old WorkForce did all of that beautifully and for whatever reasons they decided that shouldn’t be an option anymore. RUDE. UPDATE: This pile of junk will ALSO say that it is out of paper when in fact it is not. I hate it, so so so much.
