The dedicated Vello HN-1 Lens Hood (52mm Screw-On) is specifically designed for use with Nikon's 20-60mm f/3.5-5.5 IX, 24mm f/2.8 Ai, 24mm f/2.8 Ai-S, 24mm f/2.8 D AF, 28mm f/2 Ai, 28mm f/2 Ai-S, 35mm f/2.8 PC, and 35mm f/3.5 PC lenses.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. A dedicated lens hood is designed to perfectly match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for. Moreover, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. Also, since the end of the lens is extended, you get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
This is a metal hood with anti-reflective ridges on its interior.
