The German Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi), also known as the German Blue Ram Cichlid, is a selectively bred variant of the ram cichlid, renowned for its vivid coloration and adaptable nature. Native to the slow-moving waters of the Orinoco River basin, these beautiful fish thrive in planted tanks and peaceful community setups. Their iridescent blue body, bright orange face, and black markings set them apart from other cichlids.

German Blue Rams are petite, reaching an adult size of 2–2.5 inches (5–6 cm), making them perfect for nano and mid-sized aquariums. Both body and fin types showcase the ram’s signature electric blue shimmer, yellow highlights, and striking red eyes. Longfin and balloon varieties add extra visual interest and personality.

The German Blue Ram Cichlid is peaceful, social, and best kept in pairs or small groups. Unlike many cichlids, Ram fish are gentle and well-suited for community tanks with Tetras, Rasboras, Corydoras, and peaceful livebearers. Dense planting, driftwood, and soft substrate help these fish feel secure and display their best colors.

Body Types and Fin Varieties

We offer German Blue Rams in both normal and balloon body types.

  • Normal Body Type: Classic streamlined profile, ideal for those who appreciate natural ram fish beauty and swimming style.
  • Balloon Body Type: Shorter, rounder body with a unique, compact look, perfect for aquarists seeking a distinctive twist on the traditional blue ram cichlid.

Choose from normal fin and longfin varieties as well:

  • Normal Fin: Traditional, graceful fins.
  • Longfin: Elegant, flowing fins for an extra touch of movement and display, adding drama to your aquascape.

German Blue Ram Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How many German Blue Rams should I keep together?

It’s best to keep German Blue Rams in pairs or small groups to encourage natural behavior and reduce stress. For community tanks, start with a bonded pair or a group of 4–6, ensuring your tank is large enough (at least 20–30 gallons) and has plenty of hiding spots. Keeping them in groups helps promote vibrant colors, natural interactions, and a healthier social environment.

Why is my German Blue Ram losing color?

German Blue Rams may lose color due to stress, poor water quality, sudden changes in water parameters, inadequate diet, or illness. Common stressors include aggressive tankmates, rapid temperature changes, or insufficient hiding places. To restore your ram’s vibrant color, maintain pristine water conditions, provide a balanced diet rich in color-enhancing foods, and ensure a calm, well-planted tank environment.

Are German Blue Rams hard to care for?

German Blue Rams are moderately easy to care for with the right setup and maintenance. They require warm, clean, and stable water, a peaceful community, and a high-quality diet. While they are more sensitive to water quality than some other community fish, attentive care and regular tank maintenance will keep them healthy and thriving, even for dedicated beginners.

Cute & practical shoes for babies!
Size: 12-18 Months Toddler, Color: Liam Chocolate Leather
Loved the slip resistance and how easy they are to put on! The quality seems really great! The shoes did end up being too big for my little man so I did have to return but plan to purchase from this shop again!

The absolute cutest shoes ever. I will be keeping them forever. The size is perfect, they’re very lightweight, and perfect for indoor outings like the library. They seem pretty comfortable, my son enjoys putting them on.

Hard to put on but easy to come off
Size: 12-18 Months Toddler, Color: Sebastian Shark Blue
As the title says, the shoes were a bit hard to put on and perhaps that was because we were doing it for the first time . However, they would come off super easily and so we lost one of the shoes the second time the baby wore them. That was a bummer as they aren't particularly inexpensive. We didn't really get to try them out as much as we'd have liked but based on what we saw, they looked comfortable and durable. Baby loved the shark design.

Held up for well for 5 months. Fit my son’s chubby feet like no other shoe.
My son has been wearing this shoe since he was 9 months old and was cruising furniture. I bought the 6-12 month size. He started walking at 10 months and is 14 months now. He’s still wearing this shoe and it has held up well. I have him barefoot in the house and mostly use it for when he’s in the back yard, at the gym childcare and when we are out and about. He wears shoes for several hours a day at least, though I bought the Robeez sandals at the start of summer and have been switching between the two pairs. My son has wide feet and doesn’t really fit in anything but soft sole shoes. His feet are about 5” long now and these shoes are getting too small. It’s almost time to size up! They’ve treated us well. Plus they are super cute and match every outfit. He giggles when I put them on.
