Smith & Nephew OpSite Post-Op Visible Composite Dressing — See-Through Absorbent Pad, Waterproof, 6 Sizes

The post-op dressing where you can see through everything — film and pad — without touching it. OpSite Post-Op Visible by Smith & Nephew takes the standard OpSite Post-Op composite dressing concept one critical step further: where the standard Post-Op uses an opaque absorbent pad that hides the wound beneath it, Post-Op Visible uses a unique lattice-structure foam pad that is itself transparent. Combined with the transparent REACTIC film cover, the result is a dressing where the wound, the incision line, and the exudate level are all fully visible through the intact dressing — no lifting, no partial removal, no disruption to the healing environment. This eliminates the most common reason for unnecessary post-operative dressing changes: the clinician can't see what's happening underneath without taking the dressing off. Available in 6 sizes from 4 x 3-1/8 inch through 13-3/4 x 4 inch, covering small surgical sites through long spinal and thoracic incision coverage.

✔ See-Through Lattice Foam Pad — Wound Visible Through Both Film AND Pad    ✔ Complete Wound Assessment Without Dressing Removal    ✔ Waterproof — Patients Can Shower with Dressing in Place    ✔ MRSA Barrier — Bacteria-Proof Film    ✔ Low-Adherent Contact Layer — Minimal Pain on Removal    ✔ Low-Allergy Adhesive — Holds Over Awkward Contours

Indicated For — Wound Types & Applications

  • Post-operative surgical wounds — primary indication across all sizes
  • Closed surgical incisions with low to moderate exudate
  • Hip and knee arthroplasty post-operative sites
  • Spinal and lumbar surgical incisions — larger sizes
  • Thoracic and abdominal surgical sites
  • Lacerations, cuts, and abrasions
  • Minor burns
  • Any post-operative wound where frequent visual monitoring is required without dressing removal
  • Wounds managed in settings where minimizing unnecessary dressing changes is a clinical priority

Note: OpSite Post-Op Visible is designed for low to moderate exuding wounds. For heavily exuding wounds, an absorbent primary dressing with greater capacity is recommended.

The See-Through Pad — What Makes Post-Op Visible Different

The defining feature of OpSite Post-Op Visible — and the one that separates it from every other composite post-operative dressing — is the lattice-structure foam pad. In standard composite post-op dressings, the absorbent pad is opaque. The clinician can see the transparent film on the outside, but the pad beneath it blocks the view of the wound bed. To assess the wound, the dressing must be at least partially lifted — disrupting the seal, introducing contamination risk, and potentially traumatizing healing tissue at the wound edges.

OpSite Post-Op Visible's lattice foam structure is open enough to be visually transparent while still providing effective absorption and lateral fluid spread. With the dressing completely intact:

  • The wound and incision line are directly visible — clinicians can assess wound closure, inspect for signs of infection, dehiscence, or hematoma, and monitor healing progress through the dressing
  • Exudate volume and distribution are visible — the amount of fluid in the pad and where it has spread can be assessed without removal, allowing evidence-based decisions about whether a dressing change is actually needed
  • Infection indicators are visible — color changes, turbidity, and abnormal fluid characteristics that may signal early infection can be detected through the dressing before they become clinically serious

The result is fewer unnecessary dressing changes — which directly reduces contamination risk, patient discomfort, nursing time, and the mechanical disruption to wound healing that comes with repeated dressing removal and reapplication.

OpSite Post-Op Visible vs. Standard OpSite Post-Op — Which Is Right?

OpSite Post-Op Visible (668xxxxx) OpSite Post-Op Standard (660xxxxx)
Pad Visibility See-through lattice foam — wound fully visible through film AND pad Opaque pad — wound not visible through pad
Film Transparent breathable polyurethane REACTIC moisture-responsive film
Wound Monitoring Complete assessment without any dressing removal Film transparent, but pad obscures wound bed
Exudate Capacity Low to moderate Moderate to higher — thicker pad with greater capacity
Best For Wounds requiring frequent visual monitoring; settings where minimizing unnecessary changes is a priority Wounds with higher exudate where maximum pad absorbency is needed
Sizes Available 6 sizes — 4x3-1/8" through 13-3/4x4" 8 sizes — 2-1/2x2" through 4x13-3/4"

Choosing the Right Size

  • 66800136 (4 x 3-1/8") — Small incisions, arthroscopy sites, minor lacerations. Smallest format in the Visible line.
  • 66800137 (6 x 4") — General-purpose standard size. Hip, knee, and abdominal incisions of moderate length.
  • 66800138 (8 x 4") — Larger joint replacement sites, longer abdominal incisions. Most common choice for total hip and knee arthroplasty.
  • 66800139 (10 x 4") — Extended incision coverage. Longer orthopedic and abdominal surgical sites requiring additional length.
  • 66800140 (11-3/4 x 4") — Large extended coverage. Spinal and lumbar surgical sites, longer thoracic incisions.
  • 66800141 (13-3/4 x 4") — Maximum length. Extensive spinal, lumbar, or thoracic incision lines requiring full-length transparent coverage.

Application Instructions

  1. Ensure the wound and surrounding skin are clean and dry before application
  2. Select the appropriate size — dressing border should overlap the wound edges by at least 2–3 cm on all sides
  3. Remove from sterile packaging immediately before use
  4. Peel the backing and apply directly over the wound, centering the pad over the incision line
  5. Press from center outward — smooth all edges firmly to skin, including over any body contours
  6. Assess the wound through the intact dressing at each clinical visit — the see-through pad eliminates the need to remove the dressing for routine monitoring
  7. Change only when clinically indicated — when exudate approaches the dressing border, when the dressing lifts, or per protocol
  8. To remove: lift one corner and stretch gently parallel to the skin — the low-adherent contact layer separates from the wound bed with minimal trauma

Great story and illustrations!
I purchased this book as a Christmas present for my toddler nephew and it became his favorite new book of the year! I had read the story randomly in a store some years ago as the title, awards, and cover illustration caught my eye. Growing up as a 90s kid, I cannot recall being exposed to a variety of diverse books especially ones that take place in the city and Last Stop on Market Street stuck with me. It depicts the city life well, how for some the only transportation is the bus, and the value of community by giving your time to help and connect with others. The illustrations are beautifully done and the story captures both CJ's imaginations and observations wells. My brother especially loved how wise CJ's grandmother is as she guides him during their journey and teaches him at a young age how to help those in need.

A beautifully written and illustrated story about a young boy and his Nana and their loving spirit they share with others
Format: Hardcover
This is a simple, but beautiful story with heart. It is told by a little boy who apparently lives with his Nana. The illustrations are scenes painted in brilliant colors. C.J., the boy has many questions to ask his Nana, like why they have to ride the bus or always to do the same thing every Sunday? Nana patiently and gently answers every question and helps C.J. to open his eyes and his mind to the beauty around him. This book teachers children compassion and to look for good and beauty in people and their surroundings. It models empathy for those who have less than one has. Nana has a lovely spirit and great wisdom. She makes one feel that she is a lady one would like to know. Nana teaches the joy of giving back to others. This is a book I will read again and again.

Wonderful depiction of the city & finding gratitude
Format: Hardcover
I bought this book after moving my young family from SF to a very homogeneous suburb. Rode MUNI with my kids & at the time didn’t realize how diversity is taught passively when it’s all around you. Fast forward, my kiddo makes a comment in preschool that shocks me & realize that she’s now in such a bubble. This book is clearly nostalgic for me, but for my kids it’s a chance to talk about all the different lives people live. A chance to talk about race, culture, homelessness, privilege (riding the bus instead of a car, not having a music player), people with disabilities, etc. To those who choose to post about the grammar In this book, good authors work very hard on depicting dialects, which are 100% a part of one’s culture. Take the opportunity to discuss the diversity that exists in language too. My goodness, white people from Boston add & delete Rs like crazy (Cubar instead of Cuba, ca’ instead of car). 🙃
