"Great colour and bouquet with a mix of baking spices and dark berry scents, earth smoke and a meaty, smoky wood quality. Dry with a core of fine tannins and smoky wood then flavours of dark raspberry and plums, there’s a leather and dried meats quality. Acidity sits at medium and with the tannins deliver a light chewy mouthfeel. Balanced, well made and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2027+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier
"This wine is all about the fruit: warm, ripe dark berry characters, mellow tannins and balanced acidity. What oak there is plays a subtle, supporting role, and the palate is creamy and chocolatey. Not a heavy wine, but reminds me of the easy going, great value Aussie reds of yesteryear. Very quaffable" Paul Tudor MW
Bright and intensely vibrant red fruit aromas with generous, smooth red and black berry flavours, soft tannins and a nice touch of spice from the oak.
Founded in 1945, Bodega La Viña is an avant-garde wine company, and is one of the leading wineries in Valencia. Located in the Valencian town of La Font de la Figuera, its superb location between the Mediterranean and the Meseta plateau, gives its wines impressive character thanks to the sun, sea breeze, dry climate, cold winters and altitude.
Terres dels Alforins is a fertile valley in the south west of the province of Valencia and is called the "Valencian Tuscany": a multitude of small plots between the sea and the Meseta where vines have been tended since Roman times.
Winemaker Jorge Caus Pertegaz with the assistance of consultant Norrel Robertson Master of Wine, has selected this stunning value Garnacha, Spain’s second most planted variety from mostly non-irrigated vineyards with low yields and blended it with 10% Tempranillo and 5% Monastrell for added flavour complexity. Fermentation is in stainless steel tanks for 7 days at 22C to retain the intense fruit character of the variety and then a portion of the wine is matured in oak barrels for 7 months.
Food Pairing: A versatile wine that matches grilled or slow cooked meat, and can also be matched with moderately spicy dishes such as Moroccan tagines, hearty vegetarian dishes and mature cheeses.
