Its Axis opponents were so impressed by the rate of fire that many refused to believe the 25-pdr wasn't an automatic weapon. Often towed by the Morris C8 field artillery tractor — universally known as the 'Quad' — the 25-pdr was a vital support weapon in the desert campaign against Rommel's Afrika Korps and Mussolini's Italian forces.
