The Science of Reading Intervention Program has been specifically designed for ages 8-adult students in reading intervention, ELL, MLL, SPED, and adult literacy who have significant decoding (phonics) and encoding (spelling) challenges. The flexible program resources can be adapted to your schedule and available instructional minutes. Teachers find that the program works equally well in a class of 25 or a small group of 5 students. Instructional formats include interactive Google slides and/or print. You choose what works for your students.

This research-based, intensive, accelerated program is perfectly suited to both veteran and new reading teachers. No need to take 160 hours of LETRS training or earn OG certification. Teachers get the training they need as they teach with easy-to-follow, scripted directions. The instructional components require no prep and only minimal correction. This program has been developed by teachers for teachers to significantly improve reading skills as quickly as possible.

The Science of Reading Intervention Program features three components.

  1. Word Recognition (Phonemic Awareness, Spelling, Phonics, Comprehension) CLICK TO SEE A WORD RECOGNITION SAMPLE VIDEO LESSON or CLICK TO SEE A WORD RECOGNITION SAMPLE GOOGLE SLIDES AND PRINT LESSON
  2. Language Comprehension  CLICK TO SEE THE QUICK VIDEO OVERVIEW
  3. Assessment-based Instruction CLICK TO SEE THE QUICK VIDEO OVERVIEW

Teachers generally teach the intensive word recognition component the first half of the school year, followed by the  language comprehension and assessment-based instruction components for the balance of the year. Each component may be purchased separately. Note: All program components are digital downloads (no print books).

*****

The WORD RECOGNITION (Phonemic Awareness, Spelling, Phonics, Comprehension) program component features the easy-to-teach, no prep Google Slide Activities to accelerate reading achievement. Teachers display and teach the lesson from their Google slides. The scripted instruction is right there on the teachers' Google slides. No time-consuming, complicated teacher's guide. Display the slides and teach! Students use their own interactive Google slides or print copies for practice.

Google Slide Activities

Teachers display and teach 54 lessons, using Google slides to access audio and video links. Students practice with their own interactive Google slides or write on print copies.

  1. Phonemic Awareness: Quick phonemic awareness drills to open each lesson.
  2. Segmenting, Spelling, and Blending Phonics Lessons: Each sounds to print spelling and phonics lesson features continuous blending of 4-8 phonetically regular words and 2 Heart Words (words with a part to learn by heart). Includes guided handwriting spelling practice.
  3. Phonics and Heart Words Practice: Independent practice with drag and drop activities and text box typing (or writing) for the focus sound-spellings and Heart Words.
  4. Say It! Spell It! Read It! Word Chains: Students drag and drop, write, or use the letter cards to build new words with the sound-spellings introduced in each lesson. Students love to "switch 'em" from word to word in this review game.
  5. Sam and Friends Phonics Books: Decodable stories with teenage characters and plots for each of the 54 daily lessons with comprehension questions, margin annotations, and word fluency practice. Beautifully illustrated by noted comic artist, David Rickert. Google slide, tablet, Chromebook, phone, and print formats.
  6. Review: Elkonin Sound Box Dictations, Personal Sound Walls, and Multi-Syllabic Word Work: Quick formative assessment for each lesson; sound wall resources with catchy speech articulation songs and student desk copies; and practice reading, spelling, and accessing the meaning of multi-syllable words.

  3. Syntax in Reading
  4. Reading Comprehension: Strategies and expository animal articles, composed in tiered grades 1-7 levels with inferential questions

The ASSESSMENT-BASED INSTRUCTION program component features diagnostically-based instructional resources to differentiate and individualize instruction.

Even though students have completed the word recognition program, some students and new transfer students will need second-chance instruction with more intense tutoring and practice in easily-managed small groups and independent practice.

The program includes comprehensive assessments and matching instructional resources to fill in yet-to-be-mastered gaps with small group differentiated and individualized instruction in these literacy skills:

  1. Phonemic Awareness
  2. Alphabetic Awareness
  3. Phonics
  4. Expository Reading Fluency (with timing sheets and YouTube modeled readings--the same as the reading comprehension animal articles--recorded at three different speeds)
  5. Heart Words and Phonics Games
  6. Spelling Patterns
  7. Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics

Testimonials and Recommendations: Here's what teachers are saying about The Science of Reading Intervention Program:

"An extensive product suitable for students of all ages. Love that it is suitable testing and resources for older students with reading difficulties- there are too few suitable resources for this age group. Reading passages are appealing with attached ideas on how to best target each one." Felicia B.

"The Sam and Friends Phonics Books are amazing. I have been using them for two years now, my middle school kids love them, they can relate to the stories, and I have seen improved reading in all of them. They would often want to read additional books and be upset that we had to wait till the next day. My kids often said these are great to read and not about baby stuff. Several were like, 'He should make it a novel because it kind of is!'" Rose Marie Tulius Pagel

"I am an Instructional Coach and am responsible for running Response to Intervention groups, this is the perfect resource that I have been looking for! Thank you so much for creating it!" Jamie Kidwell

"I'm really am impressed by the way the lessons are explicit and simple but still accelerate the learning. Our students are making good progress using them. They are perfect for the students who struggle with spelling." Cathy Breeden

"The Sam and Friends Books (decodables) are just what my struggling middle school and high school readers need!" Joy Hutchings

"Your reading assessments made me "the hit" at our SHARE faculty meeting! Thank you." Jane Farris

"Excellent! Just what I needed for my ELLs!" Deneise McGowan

"I love the assessment parts. The students were much more willing to try when they understood that they would work on skills they as individuals were missing. The worksheets are detailed enough to really cover the material without overwhelming the students. I teach 9th and 10th graders that are in the juvenile correctional system so they have many educational gaps, but this is structured so that I can easily work with a small group or individual as needed to fill those gaps." Jules Stras

"I just wanted to thank you for creating these explicit and extensive resources for students in need. Thank you! I am working with one class of ESL students and two classes of Read 180 students with behavior issues and have been struggling to find methods to address their specific areas of weakness. I am also teaching three senior level English classes and have found them to have serious deficits in many critical areas that may impact their success if they are attending college level courses in a year's time. I have been trying to find a way to help all of them in specific and measurable ways - and I found you!" Cathy Ford

"Very useful. I love the flexibility to target the individual needs of all my students. Thank you!" Rebecca

"This has been a great resource for my small group instruction!" Carrie Thornton

"The Science of Reading Intervention Program is a great resource to use with my struggling 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders." Cougar Creations

"This is a fantastic resource." Melissa Gartly

"Our middle school students love your fluency articles and practice. So far we are delighted with the program and are happy with the results!" Heather Lewis

"I used this with a student I was tutoring, made a great improvement in her fluency skills!" Kira Brower

"Used during our after school tutoring to boost DIBELS scores! Great product! Thanks!" Stephanie Pope

"The Diagnostic Academic Language Assessment (thank you for the Google forms!) placed my students right where they need to learn. The vocabulary worksheets cover every one of the comprehensive Anchor Standards for Language 4, 5, and 6. So well done!" Michael Moustafa

Beautiful
Color: Best Dad-brown
I got this for my husband for Father’s Day and I know he’s going to love it! It’s very simple with a beautiful colored leather, great stitch/leather quality, a hearty quote with a cute design, and perfect size for what is usually kept at the bedside.

Good looking and the wireless charging works great
Color: Best Dad-brown
I have a confession to make, I(a dad) bought this for myself. I was looking for something to keep on the night stand next tot he bed without getting to big. I only wanted something to charge my phone and put the tv remotes in, I have no interest in keeping my keys, watch or spare change in reach of our younger children....most of the other options I found were much bigger for all those purposes. This one is well made, looks great, and the wireless charger is very easy with my iphone, even while in its case. I dont even need to center it in the charging pad, which was my only fear. I can lay my phone anywhere in there and it charges flawlessly. If you are looking for a gift for your dad, I would not hesitate.

Charger works great, tray is solid
Color: Best Dad-brown, Color: Best Dad-brown
I've only used wireless chargers in passing before, and always had issues with them consistently 'activating.' I've had no issues with this one at all, the tray makes it very easy to line it up. Slide the phone all the way into the groove and it's charged flawlessly for me. My phone does have a case, though it's not a very thick one like an otterbox, which I imagine would make the charging more inconsistent. The tray as a whole is very solidly built and well made, it is listed as 'vegan leather' so I'm assuming it's not actual leather, but you honestly can't tell the difference. My biggest complaint is how cheesy the saying on the tray is (even though I am a dad), but that is well worth putting up with for how nice the tray is.

Not bad, but charger didn't work with my phone
Color: Best Dad-brown
I have several organizing trays on my desk (basic, nothing as nice as this box), and so I thought to reduce the clutter on my desk further by incorporating my QI charger with an organizer tray. Unfortunately the QI charger in the organizer wouldn't link up to the QI charging coils of my phone. Whereas the organizer's charger did work with my wife's S24 Ultra, and my phone has been working on a separate QI charger. The whole point in spending this much money on this organizer is for the QI charger. Without the charger working it's just too expensive as an organizer. Yes, it has a leather look to it, but even with that finish I'd say $25 max would be all I'd be willing to pay for such an organizer. So this a cautionary point. If you give this as a gift it may not work with the recipients phone.

Effective & Attractive with Wireless Charging
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
This "valet" organizer, which is the first time I've heard that term for a product like this, is nearly perfect. For me, it checks all of the boxes and in a perfect world, I would have opted for a smaller piece with only three compartments for mobile, wallet, and keys. It's well made and quite attractive, especially the blue (favorite color, so I'm biased). The only feature I'm not a fan of is how the removeable, wireless charging pad was implemented, which sits up on a small lip at a slight incline. However, I'm not complaining one bit as the wireless charging is great, and it's a differentiator that determines the value of the piece. I would have preferred the pad be built into the piece, however the angle of it does make it easy to grab opposed to using your finger(s) to pry it up.
