Before there were titanium woods and graphite shafts, golf clubs were made from the wood of hickory trees and had intriguing names like cleek, mashie and jigger. Golf was a game played not with high-tech equipment but with skill, finesse, and creativity. And the greatest hickory player of all time was Walter Hagen---until the day he met a teenage caddie at a country club outside Chicago.
America's first touring golf professional, Hagen made (and spent) more prize money than his friends Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey earned from baseball and boxing during the Golden Age of Sports. In this novel, set in the halcyon post-war Midwest of 1946, Hagen comes to historic Midlothian Country Club as the champion he is---but also as a man handicapped by a secret.
Waiting for him are two caddies. Harrison Cornell--a onetime rich playboy from the Bahamas--has a past; the other---Tommy O'Shea, a farm boy who caddies at the country club---may have a future . . . but only if he can somehow beat Hagen on the links, in one last game played with hickory.
Cornell is a mystery man who appears from nowhere and presents himself as a "looper," a professional caddie. Soon everyone sees that he has a gift---within weeks he has improved the games of dozens of members. Only Tommy O'Shea, his eager pupil, knows Cornell's real motive for coming to the club: his grudge against Walter Hagen, over something that happened during the Second World War in the lovely paradise known as the Bahamas.
As the playboy and the farm boy become friends, Harrison teaches Tommy the secrets of playing golf with hickory, along with lessons in life and love. But the shadow of Hagen, and the upcoming match, fall across the Midwest summer, and as the competition nears, Tommy's hopes for the future---and his love for a member's daughter---are threatened when the truth about Harrison's past is revealed. Not until the climax, played out in an exciting shot-for-shot match, will all the questions be answered and all the scores settled.
As in his previous novel, The Caddie Who Knew Ben Hogan, author John Coyne has created a world rich in characters, action, and golf lore---this time including the fascinating history of hickory play. An entertaining, suspenseful read for anyone who loves the game, it is also a book that offers a pure dose of Midwestern soul, written by a new voice in golf literature who has firmly established himself as one of the leaders of the genre.

Solid, Space-Saving Solution for My Desk
Style: Deluxe, Style: Deluxe
The Under Desk Laptop Mount Bundle was easy to install, but I recommend taking your time to ensure any connections to the sides of your computer can be made through the openings of the bracket. It’s important to double-check this step to avoid any issues with being able to plug in any computer devices, such as power, monitors, headphones, etc. In my photos above, I did not use the included hook or basket due to where I was locating my laptop under my desk. I was unable to attach the basket due to my connections to my computer. Note that the basket can only be added to the left side of the system. It would be great if the design were improved to allow the basket to be added to either side of the system. That being said, I do like you can choose to install the basket and/or hook, or leave them off. Even with this minor design flaw, this bracket is a fantastic space saver! This is perfect for my stand-up desk, and is a nice upgrade to my workstation.

Likely the best underdesk laptop mount
Style: Deluxe
This product is actually pretty amazing. As a laptop mount, it is incredibly well designed. They have included foam padding strips for all the sides to protect your laptop from scratches when using it. They have also included a couple sheets of cardboard spacers, to use when aligning the mounting brackets. This makes sure you don't install them too tightly for your laptop, and it's a really nice touch. The side drawer is fully metal, which makes it really easy to magnet mount flashlights underneath for quick access. And the best part of all, they include 25 cable clips, 20 small ones, and 5 big clips. This adds incredible value to this package. One thing to keep in mind though, this product uses 3/4" long screws to securely mount under the desk. If your desk does not have a 1" thick tabletop, you may need to get some washers to mount the brackets, or else they will puncture through the desk board when fully screwed in. Be careful if using a powerdrill to install this product, because it'll drill so fast it'll punch through your tabletop before you can stop it. Although the product comes with 3M VHB for mounting, I wouldn't rely on that if you plan to put a laptop here. Your laptop's value is too high to take a risk using an underdesk mount that isn't properly held in place with screws. Despite that, I still highly recommending this product if you're looking for an underdesk laptop mount. The extras it comes with more than justifies the price for the product itself. Just be sure your tabletop board is thick enough to install it.

Great product that's easy to install and frees up space on your desk.
Style: Deluxe
Easy to install. Nice quality product with good directions. Five out of five stars. Note that if you're going to mount a laptop, and cables will be running to it, make sure that the mount's vertical support features don't interfere with where your connector locations are on the laptop. I got lucky, ha.

The shelves look super cute in my laundry closet redesign. Not heavy duty, but that’s okay for my purposes.
