Hardcover 84-page book with CD and streaming/download code. Born blind on June 15, 1880, in Floyd County, Virginia, Alfred Reed grew up on a West Virginia farm. In the 1920s, when radio became available in his area, Alfred listened to and enjoyed performances by several of the era's popular singers. Alfred would purchase songbooks and hymnbooks, and his wife Nettie would read the lyrics to him. Because the songs he learned from others did not always express aspects of what he was thinking, feeling, and experiencing, Alfred felt compelled to compose his own songs, and he was exceptionally talented in this endeavor - a craftsman with many things to say. Relying upon his talent to generate money, he gave music lessons, performed at dances and various social and church gatherings, sold printed copies of his own lyrics, and, in 1927 and 1929, made the commercial recordings included on this set. Also includes performances by The West Virginia Night Owls, Orville Reed, and Alfred and Orville Reed. Compiled by Ted Olson, a scholar, poet, photographer, and musician based in east Tennessee. Olson has written or edited several books on Appalachian music, literature, and folklore, and he has curated book/album sets documenting such Appalachia-related music stories as the 1927-1928 Bristol Sessions, the 1928-1929 Johnson City Sessions, the 1929-1930 Knoxville Sessions, the Joseph Hall field recordings from the Great Smoky Mountains, and the early studio recordings of Tennessee Ernie Ford.

The best freetoes socks ever
Color: Black, Grey
Love this toeless socks so much! I could wear it all day. Very comfortable! It is just the right thickness which is suitable in summer time or cold weather as well. Most of the toeless socks I have seen have the gel on the heel area and I don't like the feel of it. I'd rather apply lotion on my heel then wear the socks. I have had some issues with the packaging from Amazon and I made the maker of this said socks aware of it. Julia Bebben was very prompt in her response and very helpful. Thank you Julia for your excellent customer service.

great concept, just one tiny annoyance...
Color: Black, Grey
i love that a sock that lets your toes be free is even a thing that exists. i love that this company was started by a young girl, now turned young businesswoman. i have pain in my big toes, so i can't wear close toed anything, but feet get stinky if you wear shoes/slippers all the time without socks. this is a great solution. the only thing i find slightly annoying (not enough to stop using these) is the seam on the bottom of your foot, near the base of the toes. it is a straight line, which is fine on the top of the foot, but i wish the bottom itself curved a bit, to follow the line of the toes. as it is, the seam lands right in the middle if the ball of my feet, so i can feel the seams everytime i take a step. i am constantly pulling the seam toward the toes, to try to keep from feeling it, but then my pinky toe gets caught and balled up on the inside. outside of that slight annoyance, they're comfortable and fit well.

Good fit
Color: Black and Gray Argyle
I wear a size 9 shoe and these fit well. They are a little snug, but not too tight.

A little expensive but really come in handy!
Color: Black, Grey
So far I am really happy with these socks. I broke my big toe and had to have my toenail removed and am wearing a post-op shoe/boot. I wanted to wear a sock underneath so that my foot wouldn't get too sweaty but my toe is still too tender for regular socks and cutting the toes off of regular socks doesn't work because they won't stay put. These work great- I actually pull them up over my little toes and just leave my first couple of toes exposed. I really like that you can wear these on either foot (unlike some open toed socks that have openings for the big toe and the rest of your toes so they are designated for left and right foot) since I'm only using them on my right foot.

Excellent idea, could be better executed
I love the idea, but my problem with this product is that the bottom of the socks are made too short. The socks tend to slouch up when you wear them for awhile, so the entire ball of your foot will be exposed at some point. I would like to find a pair that cover the ball of the foot as well. But the socks are well made and attractive.
