It is generally folly to talk of producing a wine that is perfect. However, in the hands of the right winemaker and coupled with some of the most revered vineyard sites in California, the iconic Ridge Vineyards has accomplished this feat numerous times with wine from their Monte Bellow vineyard site.
In 1959, three Stanford engineering grads purchased the Monte Bello vineyard from a Dr. William Short who had previously planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. After their initial two vintages of high quality Cabernet they made for themselves, the trio decided to bond the winery and go full time into production.
In 1972 they employed Paul Draper, another Stanford grad to be winemaker/partner. Paul takes a hands off approach to their vineyards and winemaking letting the Monte Bello vineyard speak for itself. Starting under Paul's watchful eye, Ridge Vineyards top cuvee Monte Bello has earned 4 perfect 100pt scores, putting Ridge in a truly exclusive club in the wine world. The first 100pt Monte Bello wine was awarded in 1974, the same year that our guest host, Eric Baugher was hired as an assistant chemist at the winery and who has since worked his way up to his current head winemaker and COO role that he holds today.
The tasting pack for this virtual wine event will include 750ml bottles of the following:
Ridge Vineyards Chardonnay 2018 - Coming all from the estate Monte Bello Vineyard, the 2018 Chardonnay Estate offers a medium gold hue as well rocking notes of caramelized apples, white flowers, honeysuckle, and crushed rocks. These all carry to a medium-bodied Chardonnay with bright acidity, a focused, chiseled texture, terrific minerality, and just a kiss of background oak. It's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and have two decades of longevity, if not longer.-- 95pts Jeb
Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel Dusi Ranch 2018 - Coming from the Benito Dusi Ranch Vineyard in Paso Robles and 100% varietal, the 2018 Zinfandel Paso Robles offers a big, classic nose of plums, cigar wrapper, sandalwood, and candied violets. Rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully fruited, and textured, it has good acidity as well as a clean, dry finish. It’s a classic Paso Robles Zinfandel to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years. --91pts Jeb Dunnuck
Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 - Ridge’s 2017 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a fabulous choice for readers who want a Monte Bello fix now, without having to wait. Supple, radiant and silky, with tremendous balance, the 2017 is just flat-out delicious and utterly irresistible. Finally, a Spice Rack That Fixes the Real Problem—Access Without the Hassle

I am pleasantly surprised at how handy this spice rack is!! This iSPECLE pull-out spice rack does that others rarely deliver... makes your daily routine just that much easier. The biggest win here is access. No longer having to rummage through a messy cabinet or knock over jars to retrieve whatever you’re looking for. With everything just sliding out and coming up right in front of you. The idea is simple, but it creates a difference. There's your strong point here: the no-drill, peel-and-stick installation. It’s simple and time-saving, which is something. That being said, it still needs to be installed correctly. Use a clean surface, pressure, and time to set. Do that, and it holds well. Overlook that step, and you’ll be blaming the product when it’s all set up for you. The adjustable height is practical, especially if you’re working with a mix of 4oz and 8oz spice jars. It’s not flashy, but it offers a solution to the same annoying problem: trying to cram mismatched containers into a rigid system. What impresses me the most is that it provides some order rather than making things ever murkier. It’s not looking to reinvent your kitchen. It takes a common frustration (buried spices in dark cabinets) and makes it neat and clean for practicality's sake. Bottom line: If your cabinet seems like a black hole of spices, this is an easy, straightforward solution. Not anything fancy, just smart design and it works!

Be Mindful Of The Height

So this spice rack is amazing, if you know what you're getting. I have had a similar one in the past that was just one level. It was great and made organization easy. This being two levels tall means you have to take that into account because it's going to change the shelve layout in your spice cabinet. It wasn't a problem for me and still ended up being a net positive for making the most out of the space, but my friend bought the same ones and ended up sending them back because they wouldn't fit into his smaller cabinet. If you are aware of that going in and know it's going to work for you, they are amazing. They slide smoothly, they hold a ton, and make getting to the items in the back infinitely better. Decent price for such a huge quality of life improvement for my kitchen.

Didn't entirely save me from the mess, but it got close!

I set these up in my little mini pantry that is admittedly a bit of a mess before AND after, but now it's an organized mess that I can navigate with a bit more ease. It fits well in the space that I have, and the rollers are high quality and feel smooth. If organized chaos speaks to you and you've acknowledged that, this is a great fit!
