The Blackmagic Design Spares - ATEM Constellation 8K - PCB Audio is the dedicated hardware module responsible for the massive 156-channel Fairlight audio engine inside the Constellation 8K.

Unlike smaller switchers where audio is processed on the main board, the Constellation 8K requires a standalone PCB to handle the high-density digital audio routing, including the de-embedding of 40 SDI inputs and the management of the MADI (Multichannel Audio Digital Interface) I/O.

Core Responsibilities

  • MADI Management: Handles the BNC MADI In and MADI Out ports on the rear, allowing for 32 channels of digital audio expansion per port.

  • Analog-to-Digital Conversion: Manages the balanced XLR analog inputs and outputs, providing the high-quality conversion needed for professional line-level signals.

  • DSP Processing: Provides the dedicated horsepower for Fairlight features like 6-band parametric EQ, compressors, limiters, and noise gates across all 156 channels.

  • Talkback Hub: Routes the communication channels for the front 5-pin XLR headset and the rear RJ45 talkback ports (Production and Engineering loops).

  • Audio De-embedding: Aggregates the 16 channels of embedded audio from each of the 40 12G-SDI inputs and passes them into the Fairlight mixer.

When to Replace the Audio PCB

  • MADI "Silence": The unit functions perfectly for video, but the MADI inputs/outputs show no signal in the Fairlight mixer despite a confirmed external source.

  • Total Analog Failure: The XLR inputs are dead, or the balanced analog program output is silent or produces heavy distortion/static.

  • Talkback Failure: The production crew can see the video, but the headset communication is completely dead or only works in one direction.

  • Processing Crashes: The Fairlight tab in the ATEM Software Control freezes or shows "Engine Error" when you attempt to adjust EQs or dynamics.

  • De-embedding Errors: You lose audio across multiple SDI inputs simultaneously, even though the video signal remains clean.

Technical Installation Note

Repair Level: 4 (Advanced).

  1. Rear Connector Alignment: This board is directly attached to several rear-panel connectors (MADI, XLR, and Talkback). You must remove all associated screws and nuts from the chassis before the board can be safely extracted.

  2. Ribbon Interconnects: The Audio PCB communicates with the Main PCB via several high-density ribbon cables. Ensure these are seated perfectly; a loose data cable here can cause "digital pops" or high-pitched shrieks in your audio mix.

  3. Heatsink Integrity: While not as hot as the video FPGAs, the Fairlight DSP chips generate heat. Ensure any thermal pads are intact and making contact with the metal internal cooling frames.

  4. ZIF Sockets: If this board uses FFC (Flexible Flat Cables) for the front panel talkback connection, use extreme caution with the locking gates.

Diagnostic: Audio PCB vs. SDI Mezzanine

  • It is the Audio PCB if: You have lost all audio, including the MADI and Analog XLR ports.

  • It is an SDI Mezzanine if: You have lost audio only on a specific bank of 10 SDI inputs, but the MADI and XLR inputs are still working.

Pro-Tip: If you are hearing "digital clicks" in your audio, first check the Reference (Genlock) settings. Inconsistent sync between the switcher and your audio console can cause buffer errors that sound like hardware failure but are actually just a timing mismatch.

Are you losing audio on your MADI/XLR ports specifically, or are you seeing "silent" meters on your SDI camera inputs?

Excellent Investment!
Color: Black, Style: ET-2800-B, Pattern Name: Printer
I have had this printer for two years now. I purchased it to do invitations and signs for my Daughter's baby shower. I designed an invitation, printed more than sixty copies with address labels, return address labels, numerous signs, games and raffles tickets. I used it again for the Baby's 1st Birthday same amount of items. I have not had to fill the colored ink in over 2 years. I have filled the black. My husband also uses it for work and I've printed several other projects including pictures. Everything has always exceeded my expectations. For the price you get excellent quality. I find the software easy to use and update.

Inkjets have come a long way
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
Just a lot to like about this printer and nothing I don't like. Very capable for the price. I do mostly black and white printing, rarely print photos. (This will supposedly do a credible job of photo printing too but I haven't tried it). If you want professional caliber photo printing, you probably want the Epson 8550 which is similar to this, a bit more expensive, but does 6 color printing. If you are doing more like every day business printing the 15000 might be a better choice because it's built more for speed. The tank system means I can just replace the black because I use it a lot. The black ink tank is double size of the others and based on my experience so far, I think I'll easily get over a thousand pages on the standard-vivid setting which is very strong black but still relatively high speed printing. Given that the black ink bottles are under $30 I think the cost per page will be comparable to laser. The booklet/pamphlet printing can be complicated to work out with layers of PDF software and the Epson printer driver. But once you work it through, it's super capable. I've printed a lot of 12 x 18 double-sided for booklets and the paper handling has been flawless. (It can duplex automatically for 8 1/2 x 11 but for other sizes you have to manually duplex, which you can do by printing back/front or even/odd.) It's not as fast as a laser printer but it's pretty fast -- inkjets have improved so much.

Perfect Printer for My Small Business
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
I purchased the Epson ET-15000 for my crafting and apparel business and have been very pleased with its performance. The print quality is excellent, colors are vibrant, and the large ink tanks help save money over time. It handles larger print sizes with ease and has become an essential part of my workspace.

Nice large format printer which is what I needed
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
I make stained glass panels and needed a printer that I could make larger copies with. I also wanted one that I could manipulate my images with. This was my best option and I love the Eco-Tank printers. After reading the reviews I made sure to add a couple years of additional warranty for my peace of mind. Finding 13 x 19 paper that was affordable was a tough challenge. I found a bunch on FB marketplace and bought everything they had to offer. This printer was very easy to set-up. I just followed the instructions and then followed what was on my computer screen. At first I thought I would have an issue connecting to Wi-Fi but when it failed on the computer, I was able to go to the printer and do it from the control panel - Easy peesey. I have used it several times since filling, charging, and installing and everything works as it should. My husband has an Eco-Tank printer and I've wanted one since he got his. I love that the ink will last a very long time and that it will be cost efficient. I am not overly interested in photo printing so this was the perfect choice for my needs. The print quality is fairly good when comparing it to my old Canon and e that there are several paper trays and ways to make copies, especially the automatic feed and the larger scanner bed.

document feeder not working on first real use.
Pattern Name: Printer, Style: ET-15000
Serious reliability issues and concerns. We have owned the printer for about 1 month and printed a limited amount. For the first time today I tried scanning with the document feeder. I was scanning about 12 pages that should of been 1 document. The first page scanned and then stopped. I started the scanner again and it scanned about 5 pages and then jammed. The rest of the pages were a constant jamming/not feeding fiasco. I would run to the computer and hit scan, then run to the printer and manually push on the paper as hard as i could without the paper bending. if I pushed just right i could get a few pages through without jamming. I ended up with about 6 pdf's instead of one document and constant jamming in the paper feeder. Frustrating from a brand new printer and the first time using the paper scanner. There is a clicking noise when it scans. a few of the pages fed properly but the rest had to be forced. No obvious obstructions or other issues. I tried cleaning the rollers with no success. Then attempted to reach out to Epson support. The only support option I could find was an email form that put me in a captia loop after entering all the information so I had to start over on the ticket submission. No chat support, no phone number, brand new higher priced printer with serious build/reliability issues. Frustrating.
