WINNER OF THE BANCROFT PRIZE

One morning in 1805, off a remote island in the South Pacific, Captain Amasa Delano, a New England seal hunter, climbed aboard a distressed Spanish ship carrying scores of West Africans he thought were slaves. They weren't. In fact, they were performing an elaborate ruse, having risen up earlier and slaughtered most of the crew and officers. When Delano, an idealistic, anti-slavery republican, finally realized the deception-that the men and women he thought were humble slaves were actually running the ship-he rallied his crew to respond with explosive violence.
Drawing on research on four continents, The Empire of Necessity is the untold history of this extraordinary event and its bloody aftermath. Delano's blindness that day has already inspired one masterpiece-Herman Melville's Benito Cereno. Now historian Greg Grandin returns to these dramatic events to paint an indelible portrait of a world in the throes of revolution, providing a new transnational history of slavery in the Americas-and capturing the clash of peoples, economies, and faiths that was the New World in the early 1800s.

Gorgeous in person!
Color: White & Black, Size: 51"x67", Color: White & Black, Size: 51"x67"
This throw is gorgeous! Quality and elegance fill the room. It is well made and looks exactly like the photo and description. Has the black tips which is what I needed to bring my chair to life. It has a soft lining against your skin and i really didn't have to do much when I removed it from its packaging. It was nice and fluffy and looked beautiful draped on my chair. Many reviews said to shake it to bring flattened fur fluffy again but not on this one. I really love the black shading on it, its just enough. Beautifully packaged and arrived next day! Doesn't get too much better than this!

Gorgeous faux fur! Heavy, thick, soft and soothing under the skin, and collapsed on my bed in beautiful, real-looking folds… very satisfying!

Great quality. It is a very soft, thick throw to snuggle right up into. Looks so good drapped over my recliner that I bought a second one. Black and white throw pictured and folded in half. I am very pleased.

Soft and beautiful!
Color: Brown, Size: 60"x80"
Love it! So soft and pretty. A little small for my queen sized bed, I would size up. But beautiful and warm, feels high quality. No shedding.

DO NOT PUT IN DRYER
Color: Cream&grey, Size: 60"x80"
Very soft, very comfortable, very warm, sheds a lot at first. 9/10 for initial impression. So how do you wash it? The instructions say take it to a professional dry cleaner which costs more than the blanket, so that option is out. I've been looking everywhere and everyone says something different, I've ruined two blankets trying to figure it out how to clean them. DO NOT PUT IN YOUR DRYER WITH HEAT, EVER, PERIOD. I ruined my second blanket by putting it in the dryer for just 7 minutes on 'delicate' heat, just don't do it. Even using no heat in the dryer will cause the material to become slightly more abrasive after each cycle. MACHINELESS AIR DRY ONLY. The faux fur has an insanely low fraying point and even getting it moderately warm causes it to become abrasive and have a harsh tangled 'dog blanket' feel to it that is permanent. COLD WASH ONLY ON DELICATE. This seems to have little to no effect on the quality of the blanket. Use high quality detergent with little to no additives for delicates and a laundry bag. Fabric softeners are a big NO, they will shorten the life of your blanket substantially. For colors, The Cream and Grey and Yellow and Grey are very nice and picture accurate. The Camal was far darker than the images would have you believe and it has a greenish copper tint to it. The Ivory looks awful with how they brushed the tips.
