What motivates suicide bombers in Iraq and around the world? Can winning the hearts and minds of local populations stop them? Will the phenomenon spread to the United States? These vital questions are at the heart of this important book. Mia Bloom examines the use, strategies, successes, and failures of suicide bombing in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe and assesses the effectiveness of government responses. She argues that in many instances the efforts of Israel, Russia, and the United States in Iraq have failed to deter terrorism and suicide bombings. Bloom also considers how terrorist groups learn from one another, how they respond to counterterror tactics, the financing of terrorism, and the role of suicide attacks against the backdrop of larger ethnic and political conflicts. Dying to Kill begins with a review of the long history of terrorism, from ancient times to modernity, from the Japanese Kamikazes during World War II, to the Palestinian, Tamil, Iraqi, and Chechen terrorists of today. Bloom explores how suicide terror is used to achieve the goals of terrorist groups: to instill public fear, attract international news coverage, gain support for their cause, and create solidarity or competition between disparate terrorist organizations. She contends that it is often social and political motivations rather than inherently religious ones that inspire suicide bombers. In her chapter focusing on the increasing number of women suicide bombers and terrorists, Bloom examines Sri Lanka, where 33 percent of bombers have been women; Turkey, where the PKK used women feigning pregnancy as bombers; and the role of the Black Widows in the Chechen struggle against Moscow. The motives of individuals, whether religious or nationalist, are important but the larger question is, what external factors make it possible for suicide terrorism to flourish? Bloom describes these conditions and develops a theory of why terrorist tactics work in some instances and fail in others.Binding Type: Paperback

Stable and attractive
Item Package Quantity: 1, Color: Black
Love the black, it matches my kitchen well. Very sturdy, more so than the Simple Human one that the tension arm broke. A very good product.

Great paper towel holder
Item Package Quantity: 1, Color: Black
This paper towel holder works well for holding the roll while you pull off single sheets. It's heavy and sturdy.

Passed (my) test: 4/5
Item Package Quantity: 1, Color: Black
I used to have a paper holder affixed to the wall. Obviously, it was stable but not always delivering the size of paper towel that we expected.
After redoing my kitchen backsplash that I didn’t want to pierce through just yet, i decided to go for an countertop paper towel holder, and i picked this one (in black) Reviews were decent and i liked that it has an “arm” to hold the paper.
So, i put it to the test (see video) Here are my conclusions:
1) Solid built and weighted at the bottom + rubber to prevent the holder from moving around while pulling the paper 👍🏼
2) out of five trials at pulling the paper, i only had one fail (see video) which is still a better ratio than with my wall holder. 👍🏼
3) There are probably cheaper holders on the market, but most of them are not stable and require two hands to pull paper. This one is easy of use with only one hand which is useful while cooking.
4) i like that this holder comes in different colors, to match the kitchen decoration.
5) The hook at the top of the holder is convenient to carry the holder out of the kitchen, to the dining table for example.

Great Product - Exactly what I was looking for
Item Package Quantity: 1, Color: Black
Great product. Love the black color and the look on my counter. The tension arm does its job and the product is stable when taking a paper towel off the roll.
