Tests to determine if a dog is DEA 1.1 positive or negative (DEA: Dog Erythrocyte Antigen). On the other hand, dogs that are DEA 1.1 negative serve as universal donors. It is important to avoid using blood from DEA 1.1 positive dogs for transfusions in DEA 1.1 negative dogs. If it is the first transfusion for the recipient, the lifespan of the erythrocytes will be shortened, and the dog may develop sensitivity to DEA 1.1 in the future.
