These attractive chessmen in the traditional Staunton style first made by Jaques of London in 1849 are crafted from black stained and Kari wood. They are hand polished for a beautiful luster and they are weighted for greater stability. The Staunton design has become the standard for tournament play. The pieces are easily distinguishable making for easier game play. Knights are made to resemble the head and neck of a horse. Kings are the tallest pieces featuring a cross atop a closed crown. Queens are slightly smaller than the kings, and feature a coronet topped with a small ball. Rooks feature castle battlements, and bishops resemble a liturgical headdress of a western church. Pawns are the smallest and are topped by a plain ball. The pieces which represent humans (the king, queen, bishop, and pawn) feature a collar which separates the body from the head design. Great product, roomy, well made

Love this! Bought a second one. It is sturdy with a lot of protection in the hard case. I expected the case to be soft, but as I think of it, I am happy that it is hard shelled on the outside in order to protect the items inside. The case also has tons of room. I will keep my most-used jewelry packed in it and just grab this case when I travel. Prior to ordering this, I ordered another brand and I am SO happy that I returned that one. It was flimsy, cheaply made and not functional. This is great - looks expensive, well made, velvet lined, plenty of room. This is a bit on the larger side, but completely functional to put into a suitcase. It is organized well, too. My only suggestion for the makers is that the inside dividers could be secured better (they move around a bit) and if they wanted to hit it out of the park, they could actually offer additional dividers for that section (since the sections are fairly large, they could be divided further). However, all in all, this is a great travel organizer and a good value!
