Dennis is een 11-jarige jongen, die aanspoelt op een strand in het zuiden van Namibi‘. Op zijn reis terug naar het noorden wordt hij begeleid door verschillende dieren die hem vertellen over de geschiedenis en wetenswaardigheden van Namibi‘ en hem laten kennismaken met hun leefwijze en leefomgeving. Dennis ontmoet wilde paarden, beklimt de hoogste zandduinen ter wereld, zwemt met een zeerob mee, rijdt op een woestijnolifant en ontsnapt maar net aan een leeuw. Het is een lange, boeiende en avontuurlijke reis.
