This is a study whose main sources are archival, principally Edgar J. GoodspeedÕs ÒStudent Travel LettersÓ from 1899Ð1900. These letters home recount GoodspeedÕs daily and sometimes hourly activities during nearly two years abroad, in continental Europe, England, Egypt, and the Holy Land, in pursuit of scholarly seasoning. The bookÕs focus is on his engagement with the newly emergent field of papyrologyÑthe decipherment and study of the ancient Greek manuscripts then being discovered in Egypt. The letters allow for a tracking of this engagement in far greater depth than that allotted in his 1953 autobiography, As I Remember, or in his 90-page unpublished memoir, ÒAbroad in the Nineties,Ó filling in some apparently intentional gaps, casting doubt on some of his later self-assessments but putting much additional substance to the claim that he was indeed ÒAmericaÕs First Papyrologist.Ó The result, part biography, part travelogue, part diary, part academic history, is a description of GoodspeedÕs progress, beginning with his enthusiastic commitment to the fledgling field in the late 1890s, ending with his abandonment of it in the early 1900s, possibly a result of his complicated dealings with Oxford papyrologist Bernard P. Grenfell in the fateful summer of 1900. Along the way the book introduces the reader to the world of papyrology in its early days, but it is mainly an account of one budding scholarÕs experiences in pursuit of recognition in that subject, a story that has its own complications, narrative arc, and human interest.

Perfect playtime ball
Color: Yellow
We’ve had these balls for almost a year and still have all of them. They’ve been to the lake, countless dog parks, and chewed on at home and they’re all still in perfect condition. Our dog is a 70lb English shepherd who’s no stranger to ruining balls

NOT for aggressive chewers!
Color: Yellow
My dog destroyed this ball within 10-15 minutes of use. He is a 65 lb German Shepherd. I do not recommend these balls for aggressive chewers.

NICE for soups!
Style: 34 Ounces, Size: 34 Count
We try to keep these in the house. They are REALLY nicely sized and work great for soups. They are AWESOME for soups and the only disposable plates I feel comfy using for large stews and such. Makes cleaning easy because I don't HAVE TO CLEAN! They are a bit more expensive than otherd disposable plates, but they are worth it. Pretty heavy duty plates that are thick and great for heavier foods. <3

Favorite compostable plates ever!
Style: 34 Ounces, Size: 34 Count, Style: 34 Ounces, Size: 34 Count
I’ve been using the Dixie Ultra Extra Large Compostable Paper Bowls, and I can honestly say I absolutely love them! They’re sturdy, deep, and hold generous portions, perfect for everything from hearty soups and pasta to big salads or even snacks for movie night. Unlike other paper bowls, they don’t get soggy or collapse, even with hot or liquid-heavy foods. Another huge plus for me is that they’re compostable, so I can enjoy the convenience of disposables without the guilt. They’re strong, reliable, and environmentally friendly, which is a rare combo! If you’re looking for durable, eco-conscious paper bowls that can handle anything you throw in them, these are a must-have. Highly recommend!

No more washing pozole/menudo bowls for me
Style: 34 Ounces, Size: 34 Count
Very sturdy for a paper plate. Used these for pozole at a party and saved me the hassle of washing plates. Good size, bigger than you think. When serving it does get hot so use something underneath so you don’t get burned.
