Disques Ocora, a French label dedicated to capturing and publishing the sounds of folkloric culture from around the world, is held in the highest possible regard in the realms of professional and amateur ethnomusicology. Instigated in 1958 by Pierre Schaeffer, the founder of musique concrète, Disques Ocora's sterling reputation is largely built on composer and musicologist Charles Duvelle's pioneering field recordings, as well as his now-iconic photographs and graphic design. Charles Duvelle's work is indisputably one of the most important contributions to the human understanding of the rich biodiversity of our planet's music and language. In 1977, his field recordings from Benin were selected by Carl Sagan for inclusion on the Voyager Golden Records, which were carried into outer space by the Voyager spacecraft to stand as an example of humanity's highest musical expressions for the universe's unknown listeners. Sublime Frequencies' most ambitious project to date, this 296-page fine-art photography book comprises an exhaustive collection of Charles Duvelle's field photography from 1959 to 1978 (188 black-and-white and 58 color photographs), demonstrating that this master musicologist had an equally unerring eye for photography; Includes a photo index listing the details of each photograph. It also contains an exhaustive interview with Charles Duvelle by Hisham Mayet, detailing the history of the label and offering Duvelle's unique insights into the discipline of field recording (French and English facing text). The package includes two full-length CDs of archival recordings (some of which have never been published) selected, compiled, and fully annotated by Duvelle himself. Most of the tracks on CD one (Africa) are complete versions of truncated tracks from OOP Ocora LPs. CD two, which includes performances by Sohan Lal, Kheo Oudon, and Madurai Ramaswami Gautam, is focused on material from Asia (music from India and Laos), with two long tracks that have never been released (a third track is a complete unedited version). The material focuses on the five regions surveyed during his time with Ocora: West Africa, Central Africa, Indian Ocean, Pacific Islands, and SouthEast Asia. It includes "Disques Ocora / Charles Duvelle Discography, 1959-1974", a complete overview illustrated with 94 full-color album thumbnails, "The Prophet Collection, 1999-2004" a discography of Duvelle's post-Ocora label illustrated with 41 full-color album thumbnails, "Eastern Music in Black Africa", a 17-page report prepared by Charles Duvelle at the request of UNESCO (February 1970), and a review of the Ocora catalogues (1964-1973). In a tribute to Disques Ocora's exquisite design sensibility, the book is printed on 170 gsm Lumisilk matte art paper and bound in grey buckram with gold foil stamping on the cover and spine. I’m sorry. Excuse me. WHAT? How is this Peyton’s debut novel?! This book had NO BUSINESS being this good. IMMEDIATELY it is in the top 5 books I’ve read this year, and I’ve read nearly 125 books. I was blown away by how good this was and cannot recommend it enough.
This book follows Sadie, a figure skater who has a hard home life but is determined to succeed this year, and Rhys, the captain of the hockey team who took a hard hit in last year’s Frozen Four and is now struggling with getting back on the ice. These two are some of the BEST MCs I’ve read in a while! Sadie has so much going on, between her skating career, working 3 jobs, trying to get custody of her two younger brothers from their alcoholic dad, and school in general, this girl is stretched thin, but she is a power house - small but mighty. I loved her spitfire character! She is so guarded, but understandably so. I loved seeing her icy exterior melt for Rhys. And RHYS. I think he might be my favorite Rhys to date 👀 . He is the perfect Cinnamon Roll, but he’s also going through PTSD from a terrible hit and struggling. He becomes so obsessed with her and honestly, I’m a little jealous. (Let’s not forget about the mouth on this man though 🥵 .) I LOVED them as a pair and the angst and tension between them was spectacular! I love how they pushed each other and how well they matched. The spice between them was perfection as well! This was such a good blend of character development, plot, and spice.
I also have to discuss the amazing side characters. First of all, Sadie’s brothers are the stars of this show. Liam was the cutest thing on this planet and I just wanted to give Oliver a hug (but won’t because he doesn’t want to be touched). The way Rhys interacts with them and the whole storyline with them made me bawl. It was soooo good. Then we have Rhys’ family! His parents are magnificent and I need to know more about their story! And lastly, we cannot forget Rhys’ team. I cannot wait for more books about each and every one of them. They were all introduced so well and I KNOW there are going to be some fantastic stories told about them. I’m going to need this to be a series with all of the hockey teammates (Toren and Bennett both have me eyeing them up and I needed their books YESTERDAY). I’m also going to need a prequel novel about Rhys’ parents AND a next gen spinoff with Sadie’s younger brothers. This book is going to be a trophy I buy for my shelf so I can reread it and I will definitely be reading anything and everything Peyton writes in the future!
The mental health rep in this book was chefs kiss. We saw them both struggling with their thoughts and emotions, saw them using each other for comfort, and saw them both getting true help. I loved that Rhys recognized he was using her as a crutch and sought therapy. We need more mental health rep that is done like this!
Honestly, I cannot recommend this book enough. It had me laughing, blushing, and full on crying so many times. There was so much emotion, care, and love packed into this book. BRAVO Peyton on writing such a magnificent debut novel!

Love. Such a beautiful story!

Rhys and Sadie Gray meet at a point in their lives where they really need each other. Their initial impressions of each other are not that great and they start off on the wrong skates. These two are both struggling with their own issues and each carries their own stress differently. Rhys struggles with the aftermath of a traumatic injury while playing hockey. Sadie struggles with the weight of responsibility. Their story is not unique, but in this genre it's the first time I've read a story like this and it did not disappoint. It's such a beautiful story about love and staying steadfast in your conviction to stand by the person you love even when they don't think they deserve it and push back. The love Rhys has is unmatched and it reminded me of Johnny from Boys of Tommen. The author did an incredible job and I can't wait to read more from her.

Unsteady Review

This was my first book by the author and it did not disappoint. I loved how real and relatable the main characters were. From the mental health journeys they go on, and the things they deal with in their life. I felt like I could be their friend. I didn't want this book to end it was so good. It made me feel all the things: happy, sad, it made me laugh. And above all the representation of friendship in this was great! Will definitely read more of the author's books!

Rhys Koteskiy, college hockey captain, and son of famous former NHL player Maximilian Koteskiy. Thinks he’s on top of the world in his growing career, until one day he takes a nasty hit that leaves emotionally unable to get back onto the ice without complete panic. When he decides to try and take control at the rink alone so others don’t find out about his anxious state, he runs into the angsty figure skater…
Their paths keep connecting from the morning skates where they decide to share the ice from Sadie’s brothers participating in the youth hockey program Rhys helps out with. Sharing music playlists turns into sharing each others bodies for each others personal gain. But what happens when the guy falls first and the girl wants none of the emotional strings? Or when lawyers become involved with Sadie’s situation of her brothers? Buckle up because it’s about to become quite icy!

This series is everything to me! The way Peyton Corinne incorporates mental health into all of her books is so special and important. The representation is always so good, and you can clearly tell that she puts a lot of effort and research into making things accurate. This book was so insanely addicting and fast-paced. It was a super quick and easy read, and I always thought about it when I wasn't actively reading it.
Rhys Koteskiy, the man that you are. I'm going to be honest: at first, I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this book because it was very much insta-love for him, but I think it was drawn out very well, and I also think it worked for his character development (iykyk). The way that he treated Sadie and showed her that constant reassurance that he was never leaving was so special. Not only was he a great love interest, but his healing from page 1 to 360 was incredible, and I think that if you're an athlete who has gone through injury and/or is struggling with an injury, the representation is HUGE.
To be completely honest, I don't have much to say about her, but I absolutely loved Sadie, and I felt for her so much!
This last note honestly doesn't have anything to do with the book or the author, but the comparison between Binding 13/Johnny and Shannon does a huge disservice to the book and creates a false expectation for the reader. All of this being said, I highly recommend this book and will certainly be reading all of Peyton's work!
