A very honest, mid-18th century, probably country-made, tilt-top tripod occasional table, with wonderful patina and rich colour.

The top can be tilted upright to save space when not in use.

The top is made from a single piece of mahogany, above a turned, gun barrel and gadrooned stem and three finely shaped legs and pad feet.

The pedestal is from one piece of timber with the grain going the same direction - all signs of a genuine 18th-century piece.

The legs are slightly keeled and attached to the pedestal with dovetail joints, pointing towards 1750 or later when this method of attaching legs was introduced.

The original metal brace is still in place.

All screws look original, as does the tilting mechanism and latch, I can't find any evidence of the table being 'mucked around with' at all.

A particularly good, honest example.

The condition is excellent and untouched, save for me giving it a wax polish.

I can see no signs of damage, splits, repairs or restoration anywhere on the table - very rare for this style and age of table.

The table is very sturdy and strong, with just a slight movement to the top when flat where the receiving part of the catch is a little loose - very common with these tables. I think a couple of replacement later screws have been used here. This could easily be improved or left as is as the table works fine, I just mention it for transparency.

The top surface has old ink stains, dark rings and dings etc., which I have left as part of its history and character, rather than strip or clean away.

A super original example of 18th-century country-made furniture.

DIMENSIONS:
Top: 81.5cm x 80.5cm (a good sign the 'with grain' and 'across grain' measurements are different - due to natural shrinkage over time)

Floor to table surface: 72cm

Drama Free For Sure!
Format: Kindle
Nedra Glover Tawwab is a New York Times bestselling author, a licensed therapist, and a sought-after relationship expert. This book is a therapeutic and educational tool that addresses how to consciously change behaviors you’d rather not have in relationships, specifically, around your family. For those of us who have delved into the self-help book world, this is an in-depth, thorough refresher, focusing on family dynamics. Nedra’s core belief is that relationships contribute to mental health. They can cause you pain or they heal you. She focuses on taking your relationships seriously and teaches the art of having tough but intentional conversations to create positive change. OR you’ll learn how to sever ties when the relationship is unmanageable. None is more influential than the formative years we’ve had with our family of origin. A lot of people lament that not everything is about the family, but yup, so often it’s true. In childhood, most likely we weren’t allowed to be ourselves, so our true selves started to develop when becoming an adult. Like a butterfly using its colossal strength to break out of its chrysalis, we too must use our emotional colossal strength to break out of our childhood mold in order to fly. We are able to have relationships with family on our terms.

Insightful and Compassionate.
Format: Hardcover
I really love Nedra Glover Tawwab's work. I started with "Set Boundaries, Find Peace" and that opened the gateway to a broader and more helpful healing journey for me. This book, "Drama Fee" was just an evolutionary step in her series and a more in depth dealing with family relationships. The different perspectives for each chapter on how the concept can be applied was/is helpful as it often feels like books of this nature are only telling the black or white way to focus on a relationship. I felt seen and heard that though my familial relationships are unique there are commonalities and in turn ways to approach healing, reconciliation (with oneself and with family), understanding and compassion, to a achieve drama free relationships. As humans we are bread for connection and I appreciate Nedra Glover Tawwab's help in navigating them.
