Strut follow up their hugely successful Marshall Allen-curated 'In The Orbit Of Ra' compilation with a newly curated set from the immense 125 LP back catalogue of jazz maverick, DIY philosopher and self-professed member of an "angel race", Sun Ra. 'To Those Of Earth... And Other Worlds' is a hand-picked selection from BBC 6Music DJ Gilles Peterson, long-time champion of Ra's music and the UK's leading tastemaker for jazz-based sounds. It serves as perhaps the best introduction yet to the music of Sun Ra for a whole new generation of converts. Sun Ra was a one-off in the annals of jazz. As author Robert L. Campbell describes, "He claimed to be the last of the swing band leaders, yet dosed classic songs with LSD. He wrote poetry about the "coming space age" and claimed to be a citizen of Saturn. He dressed himself and his band in gold lame and lectured on the Creator 's message to the cruel and deceitful Earthman. He named himself after an Egyptian God. Was this guy for real? Sun Ra was very much for real." For the CD version, Peterson picks personal favorites, classics and unreleased tracks and weaves them into a flowing piece across 2CDs, showcasing the incredible variety of Ra's work. Alongside the familiar tones of 'Love In Outer Space', the modal classic 'Sleeping Beauty ' and a heavy version of 'We Travel The Spaceways', he brings in the off-kilter croon of 'Dreaming', a 45 given to him personally by the late John Peel, alongside an unreleased 1987 bossa take on 'Astro Black', the experimental dub ambience of 'Adventure-Equation' and the defiant anthem, 'Blackman'. The 2LP features full length versions of selected tracks from the mix while the digital version features a full unmixed selection with Peterson's mix available within the album bundle. Sleeve notes on physical formats come from Gilles Peterson with a full Ra career biography by author Robert L. Campbell. The album also features previously unseen photos from the archives of Val Wilmer and Jorg Brecker alongside full musician line-ups and session details.

I love this!
Format: Paperback
This is a different type of marriage book. It’s very practical and addresses topics will affect you marriage that you can discuss beforehand. Many of these things get figured out along the way by way of arguments and disagreements or worse, just acquiescing without agreeing. (10 years later this is the reason you’re getting divorced and you haven’t ever talked about it. The other person has no idea & you never trusted them enough to tell them your feelings.). These topics range from who is going to clean the toilet to handling money and marrying into another family. It’s good practical thought and food for discussion. As the first chapter says “Being in love is not is not an adequate foundation for a successful marriage.”

Thank You for this Incredible Book!

I am 19 and I am "unofficially" engaged. I know that he and I will most certainly without a doubt be getting married. We have known each other since we were 5 and 6 years old and have built a friendship with God at the center. We are trying our hardest to do things that right way considering we have both come from very (for lack of a better word) dysfunctional house holds. Both of my parents being on their third marriages each and his finally coming back to The Lord after many years of living in the world, haven't always been the best examples for us to learn from. We know exactly how we don't want to lead a marriage but we were not sure exactly how go about leading a proper or Godly marriage. This book, which I accidentally stumbled upon a few weeks ago, has been a serious eye opener and a total reality check. Though I will admit we were in the "tingles" stage, as Dr. Gary Chapman puts it, we have always tried to stay realistic. "Things I Wish I'd Known Before We Got Married" has truly taught us a lot of valuable lessons and I know we will keep the things we have learned from this book close at hand in the coming years.
We thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, but what really made it interesting and kept us flipping the pages were the little anecdotes that were shared about other couples. Listening or reading their experiences really helped us relate to the situations that were being explained. We also liked the "Talking it Over" segments at the end of each chapter. Those we extremely useful when it came to understanding all the information that was just handed to us in the previous reading.
I can not stop telling people about this book. I already have my sister and her husband reading it and it has greatly improved their relationship now after almost 4 months of marriage. I have also recommended it to each of my parents and my fiancé's parents as well because I know they could greatly benefit from it as I did.
