NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - A worthy heir to Isak Dinesen and Beryl Markham, Alexandra Fuller shares visceral memories of her childhood in Africa, and of her headstrong, unforgettable mother.

"This is not a book you read just once, but a tale of terrible beauty to get lost in over and over."--Newsweek

"By turns mischievous and openhearted, earthy and soaring . . . hair-raising, horrific, and thrilling."--The New Yorker

Though it is a diary of an unruly life in an often inhospitable place, Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight is suffused with Fuller's endearing ability to find laughter, even when there is little to celebrate. Fuller's debut is unsentimental and unflinching but always captivating. In wry and sometimes hilarious prose, she stares down disaster and looks back with rage and love at the life of an extraordinary family in an extraordinary time.

From 1972 to 1990, Alexandra Fuller--known to friends and family as Bobo--grew up on several farms in southern and central Africa. Her father joined up on the side of the white government in the Rhodesian civil war, and was often away fighting against the powerful black guerilla factions. Her mother, in turn, flung herself at their African life and its rugged farm work with the same passion and maniacal energy she brought to everything else. Though she loved her children, she was no hand-holder and had little tolerance for neediness. She nurtured her daughters in other ways: She taught them, by example, to be resilient and self-sufficient, to have strong wills and strong opinions, and to embrace life wholeheartedly, despite and because of difficult circumstances. And she instilled in Bobo, particularly, a love of reading and of storytelling that proved to be her salvation.

Alexandra Fuller writes poignantly about a girl becoming a woman and a writer against a backdrop of unrest, not just in her country but in her home. But Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight is more than a survivor's story. It is the story of one woman's unbreakable bond with a continent and the people who inhabit it, a portrait lovingly realized and deeply felt.

Great feel, great fit, great value! Not great if you need shoes that breathe well...
Size: 10, Color: Brown
What did I notice about these shoes as a Cole Haan junkie? I was looking for some "cheapies" that were somewhat close to Haan's comfort. Tried several and these are by far the closest thing! So comfortable! These shoes fit according to size- and it was sad when I had to take out the insoles that came with these for my arch support ones- the insoles that came with the Bruno's are amazing. They are stylish and seem well built but I've only been wearing them for a couple of weeks. They get 4 stars because of a few things but overall a GREAT value for money! "Downsides" include fact that they breathe as well as we do underwater- not well at all! If you struggle with foot sweat- I'd look elsewhere. Also- the soles are super comfy but I get rocks, debris, and other things stuck in the deep grooves almost every time I walk off sidewalk. Just something to be ready to pick out regularly. Overall though- strong recommendation! Hopefully they don't rip out on me in a month! Will update if they do! :)

Perfect Blend of Comfort and Style
Size: 9, Color: Brown, Size: 9, Color: Brown
I recently purchased size 9 of these shoes, and they exceeded my expectations in every way! Here’s what I love about them: 1. Comfort: The moment I put them on, I noticed how soft and supportive they felt. The cushioning provides all-day comfort, making them perfect for long walks, workdays, or running errands. 2. Fit: The sizing is spot-on! I ordered my usual size, and they fit perfectly with no need to size up or down. There’s enough room for my toes to move without feeling too loose or tight. 3. Style: These shoes look even better in person. The design is sleek and versatile, making them easy to pair with both casual and semi-formal outfits. I’ve received several compliments already! 4. Durability: I put it on the day of purchase. After wearing them daily for a couple of days, they still look brand new. The stitching and material seem high-quality and built to last. 5. Value for Money: For the price, these shoes deliver exceptional value. You’re getting premium comfort and style without breaking the bank. Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for shoes that offer comfort, style, and durability, I highly recommend giving these a try. I’ll definitely be considering another pair in a different color soon! To conclude, I’m very happy for this purchase. Will definitely buy again.

Comfortable, Easy to Clean, and Held Up at Coachella
Size: 12, Color: White, Size: 12, Color: White
I’m really happy with this purchase. The shoes are very comfortable, and the product description is accurate. I followed the sizing recommendation based on my foot type and went one size up—they fit perfectly. I bought these for Coachella, and they definitely held up. I was on my feet all day, and they stayed comfortable the entire time. What impressed me most is how easy they were to keep clean. At the end of each day, I was able to wipe them down and maintain their whiteness without much effort. Once I got home, I gave them a deeper clean, and they honestly looked as good as new. Even the laces cleaned up easily. Now I’ve transitioned them into my regular work shoes, and they still look great. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend them.
