《香港字二百年：從世一、大白象至世界文化遺產之路》與大家細說原為傳福音而生的「香港字」。它既是西方漢學研究、西學東漸的橋樑，亦記錄了晚清的政治、經濟、文化和民生，更大大改變了近代中國印藝科技的發展。
十九世紀中葉，在巴黎字和柏林字之間，香港字贏得最優雅的中文鉛活字之美譽，惟在二十世紀初，卻被譏諷為不合時宜的「大白象」，最後被淘汰及遺忘。及至二〇二〇年，這套為人淡忘的中文鉛活字，蛻變為文化遺產，成為鑄字有人、排印有人、研究有人、創作有人的當代印藝。

 

作者：翁秀梅

翁秀梅是當代印藝(香港版畫工作室)的項目總監，曾策劃多項國際大型版畫圖像藝術展覽及推廣計劃，把香港的版畫圖像藝術帶到國際藝術舞台。她從事研究香港版畫圖像藝術和香港印藝，尤其是平版石印及中文活字在近代中國的發展。其研究論述先後在信報、歷屆 IMPACT 及Southern Graphic Conference International等多個國際圖像藝術研討會中發表。翁秀梅亦是康樂及文化事務署博物館專家顧問(香港藝術)及國際印藝博物館聯會(The International Association of Printing Museums)的創會會員。2019年，翁秀梅參與尋找19世紀中業，香港英華書院鑄造明體4號字，同時發起重鑄這世界第一套中文活字的研究工作，她亦在文獻中考訂得這套明體4號字被時人稱為「香港字」。「香港字」的故事首次在2020年她參與策劃的《字裡圖間－香港印藝傳奇》展覽中發表。這幾年來翁秀梅繼續研究「香港字」在國際間的縱跡，其中最大的發現是英國牛津大學出版社檔案館藏有購自香港的「香港字」字模，相信是當今唯一完整的存世實物。2025年春天，這批文物重臨香港，在當代印藝《細說從頭：鴨巴甸的印藝傳奇》中展出，同時出版《香港字二百年：從世一、大白象至世界文化遺產之路》與大家細說「香港字」的傳奇故事。
