Whilst the sleeves of many artists are adorned with well-worn hearts as they release their complete albums into the world, as New Zealand born singer-songwriter Lawrence Arabia, James Wilne's latest project offers a rare glimpse into the creative process through 12 separate Lawrence Arabia's Singles Club releases - now available on one handy LP and bringing together an extensive list of VIP members. One day in late 2017, at his home in Auckland, James sent a message on a whim and suddenly found himself in an email tête-à-tête with Van Dyke. A "lullaby for neurotic adults", 'Just Sleep (Your Shame Will Keep)" was originally written for Arabia's psychedelic comedy podcast sensation, "Mysterious Secrets Of Uncle Bertie's Botanarium," but took on a new lease of life with the addition of Van Dyke's piano, accordion, scratch woodwind, and double bass. Constructed in Lawrence Arabia's revered bedroom recording style, each Singles Club offering was built with ruthless ambition. "Everything's Minimal", "Cecily", "Meaningless Words", and "Oppositional Democracy" began through the course of the year and were completed in the following months whilst other songs were revived from rough demos that followed 2016's Absolute Truth as quickly and instinctually as possible. Bound with one seamless invisible thread, the album stands as a body of work capturing a moment in time. Like those buildings with their structure on the outside, Lawrence Arabia's Singles Club exposes the inner-workings of what it takes to create a record and offers any member a one-way ticket to Dreamsville. "I'm delighted at how it all ended up flowing," he tells. "I treated it like making a mixtape in extreme slow motion, so tried to make each song respond to the previous one the way you might when choosing a DJ set on the fly. Except this set was one year long, only twelve songs, and the songs had to be written and produced before they could be played. " Lawrence Arabia has previously released albums on Bella Union and Flying Nun. Van Dyke Parks on the project: "As inviting as the honk of the Good Humor Man of the '50s, who toodled his ice-cream truck through neighborhoods of my youth. Such tune-smithery simply isn't for tyros. It takes real savvy to pull it off. James Milne is equipped for such craft. I was delighted to feel attached to such a talented work, a notch above, and so plainly fanciful. Dreamsville!"

Excellent Scripture-based compilation of lectures on human sexuality and marriage
Format: Paperback
This is a compilation of a series of lectures given by Pope John Paul II on the true meaning of sexuality and spousal union. It is a rather lengthy book, with lots of repetition because they are his lectures. At the beginning of each lecture, expect that he will "recap" what he discussed the previous time. It is good to read his actual words, but it requires patience to filter through the "new" material he presents because after a while you realize he is saying the same thing in different words; but, this may be required to get his message through to some readers/listeners. Each of us learns and grasps concepts differently, so his presentation of the material is geared toward universality in teaching the meaning of true spousal union as mutual self-gifting as given to us by God in the beginning before the fall in Eden. Using Scripture, JPII explains God's divine plan for human sexuality and its purpose; and he explains how objectification and selfishness in sexuality has led to a multitude of problems for society. He sees the sacramental aspect of marriage between man and woman through the eyes of Scripture. It is worth the time to read, but be patient with his repetitions, realizing that this was originally a lecture series. This book includes the "transcripts" of those lectures. Every Christian person--Catholic or not--should read his book to understand how sacred human sexuality is and how deviance destroys relationships.

Logical and easy to read
Format: Paperback
St. Pope John Paul II may have been a polymath, but his approach to explaining the metaphysical relationship of man and the human condition as it relates to theology and our relationship with God make this a great read!

Food for thought (and life) for ages to come
Format: Paperback
Blessed John Paul II shared with the whole world the fruit of years of lived life and deep reflection, prior to being elected Bishop of Rome. Anyone who wishes to delve into this work is in for a hard-earned yet worthy treat, as it is not always an easy read, but deeply satisfying. John Paul II's understudy and friend, Stanislaw Grygiel, once challenged the pope saying that few would actually understand what he taught. The Pope replied, "Some things just have to be said!" Thanks to Prof. Michael Waldstein, we have an excellent introduction and much-improved translation of this monumental work. As I said in the title, there is the pope's catecheses on the theology of the body much food for thought (and life...and love!) for ages to come. Blessed John Paul II, thank you and pray for us!
