The Crooked Mirror-A Memoir of Polish-Jewish ReconciliationA lyrical literary memoir that explores the exhilarating, discomforting, and ultimately healing process of Polish Jewish reconciliation taking place in Poland today "I'd grown up with the phrase 'Never forget' imprinted on my psyche. A lyrical literary memoir that explores the exhilarating, discomforting, and ultimately healing process of Polish-Jewish reconciliation taking place in Poland today "I'd grown up with the phrase 'Never forget' imprinted on my psyche. Its corollary was more elusive. Was it possible to remember--at least to recall--a world that existed before the calamity?"In the winter of 2000, Louise Steinman set out to attend an international Bearing Witness Retreat at Auschwitz-Birkenau at the invitation of her Zen rabbi, who felt the Poles had gotten a "bum rap." A bum rap? Her own mother could not bear to utter the word "Poland," a country, Steinman was taught, that allowed and perhaps abetted the genocide that decimated Europe's Jewish population, including members of her own extended family. As Steinman learns more about her lost ancestors, though, she finds that the history of Polish-Jewish relations is far more complex. Although German-occupied Poland was the site of horrific Jewish persecution, Poland was for centuries the epicenter of European Jewish life. After the war, Polish-Jewish relations soured. For Poles under Communism, it was taboo to examine or discuss the country's Jewish past. Among Jews in the Diaspora, there was little acknowledgment of the Poles' immense suffering during its dual occupation. Steinman's research leads her to her grandparents' town of Radomsko, whose eighteen thousand Jews were deported or shot during the Nazi occupation. As she delves deeper into the town's and her family's history, Steinman discovers a prewar past where a lively community of Jews and Catholics lived shoulder to shoulder, where a Polish Catholic painted the blue ceiling of the Radomsko synagogue, and a Jewish tinsmith roofed the spires of the Catholic church. She also uncovers untold stories of Poles who rescued their Jewish neighbors in Radomsko and helps bring these heroes to the light of day. Returning time and again to Poland over the course of a decade, Steinman finds Poles who are seeking the truth about the past, however painful, and creating their own rituals to teach their towns about the history of their lost Jewish neighbors. This lyrical memoir chronicles her immersion in the exhilarating, discomforting, sometimes surreal, and ultimately healing process of Polish-Jewish reconciliation. From the Hardcover edition.

Love these pants
Color: Apricot, Size: Large
These wide leg palazzo pants are super nice! The material is very lightweight, making them perfect for summer. They’re incredibly flattering, comfortable, and I absolutely love the fit. The drawstring waist and pockets are a great bonus!
For reference, I’m 5’10”, 170 lbs, and ordered a Large — they fit perfectly. Highly recommend if you’re looking for stylish, flowy, comfortable summer pants!

Love! New favorite pants!!
Color: Apricot, Size: Medium
I really love these pants!
They’re extremely versatile. I wear them to work in professional attire, then come home, throw on a t-shirt, and wear them to lounge for the evening. They’ll even be great over a swimsuit on vacation.
Bonus points for having pockets! They have been durable enough for my phone and keys without them dragging the pants down.
When I first received them, I was surprised by how thin and somewhat see-through the apricot pants are— to the point that I considered returning them. I’m so glad I didn’t! They are insanely comfortable. Don’t let the reviews about being see-through deter you. Work around it! One day of wear and you’ll see why.
I prefer to wear these with shirts that tuck in the front and cover most of my bottom in the back due to how see-through they are in this light color. The comfort is worth it!
They are long for someone my height, 5’2”. I wear them with a Sofft sandal that has a thicker sole that adds a little height. This prevents them from touching the ground without me having to pull up on them all day. I can easily and comfortably wear them a little high on the waist to help with the length, as long as I’m wearing the thicker-soled sandal (or a heel). I don’t wear heels, so it’s thicker soled shoes for me!
I don’t feel these are going to be the most durable pants and expect to replace them more quickly than other pants- but I do expect to get at least a couple of good years out of them.
They are lightweight and cool, perfect for summer and spring. I don’t see myself wearing them to work or anywhere outside during cold winter weather.
I read the reviews and ordered a size down. I’m normally a large, size 8-10, and the medium fits wonderfully and is very giving. If I liked a tight pant, I probably could’ve gone with a small.
I will absolutely be purchasing them in other colors!
With this apricot color you’ll need to wear white or skin-colored seamless underwear.
I took one star off for being somewhat see-through. Outside of that, they are easily 5 star pants. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
For the $20-$25 price, get them and thank me later!!

Great quality for the price!
Color: Apricot, Size: Small
Great palazzo pants! I was looking for something to wear in Florida to a graduation but did not want to be too hot. These pants are versatile and very flattering. So comfortable as well and no wrinkles! The length was perfect for me at 5'2" and they wash very well. I purchased slip shorts to wear underneath to avoid the dreaded panty line / crease, etc. and the slip shorts smooth everything out & make you look seamless!

So great, that I own 4 pairs of these Sampeel pants!
Color: Pattern Leopard, Size: Large, Color: Pattern Leopard, Size: Large
I own 4 pairs of these pants because I love them so much! I receive many compliments when I wear them. They are stylish, comfortable, and a great thin material that keeps you cool while looking professional. I am 5" tall and can wear them with heels without needing them to be hemmed (which is unusual for me when ordering pants). They have an elastic waist band with drawstrings so I can wear them while losing weight, they don't wrinkle easily, and they have pockets! Great pants for a great price! I will continue to purchase more throughout the summer.

The good with the bad
Color: Pattern Kah, Size: XX-Large
Photos in listing depict a LINEN pant - in the close up's you can clearly see a linen/cotton like material. To my surprise, these pants are a silky, polyester material. There is NO stretch - I am glad I purchased a size larger than what I consider my " roomy " size. These style is also depicted as a beige and black color pattern, they are more of a light mauve color out of the packaging. Took a steamer to them to get the wrinkles out. Suitable for tall girls ( I am 5'9 ) and wearing them with 3 in wedge. They are cute - dressy enough for a business casual office setting or a date night. Probably not the best for hot humid weather as they are not breathable.
