Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera 6K (Full Frame)

The Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera 6K (often referred to as the "CC6K") represents a major evolution for the brand. Released as the first "Pocket-style" camera to feature a Full Frame sensor and an L-Mount, it dropped the "Pocket" moniker to signify its shift into high-end cinematography.

In 2026, it is the go-to choice for filmmakers who want the "large format" aesthetic—characterized by a shallower depth of field and a wider field of view—while maintaining the familiar, portable form factor.

Core Functionality

  • 24 x 36mm Full Frame 6K Sensor: This massive sensor delivers a native resolution of 6048 x 4032. Because it is a 3:2 open gate sensor, you can use the entire sensor area, which is perfect for anamorphic cinematography or for reframing vertical content for social media without losing quality.

  • Leica L-Mount: The transition to the L-Mount is a game-changer. With its short flange distance, you can easily adapt almost any lens, including Leica L, Panasonic, and Sigma L native lenses, or adapt to Canon EF, ARRI PL, and vintage glass using simple adapters.

  • Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF): Unlike previous models, this camera features a high-performance OLPF specifically designed for the 6K sensor. This significantly reduces moiré and aliasing when shooting fine patterns (like fabrics or LED screens), resulting in a much more "organic" film look.

Professional Features

  • Dual Native ISO: Features the classic Blackmagic dual gain architecture at 400 and 3,200 ISO, ensuring exceptionally clean images in low light across the full frame.

  • 1500-Nit HDR Tilting Screen: Includes the ultra-bright, daylight-viewable 5-inch touchscreen found on the 6K Pro.

  • Professional Audio & Power: Equipped with dual mini XLR inputs (48V phantom power) and powered by the Sony-style NP-F570 battery.

Technical Specifications

Feature Details
Sensor Size 36mm x 24mm (Full Frame)
Dynamic Range 13 Stops
Max Resolution 6K "Open Gate" (6048 x 4032) up to 36 fps
High Speed 120 fps at 1080p (Windowed)

Recording Media CFexpress Type B (Internal), USB-C (External)

Media Shift: CFexpress Type B

One of the biggest changes in this model is the move from CFast 2.0 to CFexpress Type B. This allows for much faster write speeds and higher capacities, which are necessary for handling high-bitrate Full Frame 6K RAW data. It still retains the high-speed USB-C port for recording directly to SSDs.

Operational Insight (2026)

In 2026, the Cinema Camera 6K is favored for commercial and fashion work where the "full frame look" is highly desirable. Because it captures 3:2 Open Gate, it is arguably the most versatile camera for modern "multi-platform" delivery, allowing you to extract a horizontal 16:9 and a vertical 9:16 frame from the same high-resolution file.

Pro Tip: If you are transitioning from the Pocket 6K (Super 35), remember that your focal lengths will feel "wider" on this camera. A 35mm lens will actually look like a 35mm lens, rather than the ~50mm equivalent you might be used to on Super 35.

Superb
Format: Hardcover
A superb selection of Williams' poetry in a handsome and durable small volume. The editor, Robert Pinsky, selected an appropriate spectrum of Williams' verse across his long career, including all his most famous poems. Reading and rereading these poems is always rewarding because of Williams' ability to capture arresting images, experiences, and states of mind. As with all anthologies, some choices may be arguable. I would like to see all of his great, late poem Asphodel included but Pinsky's choices make sense and reflect his sure knowledge of Williams' work. This book is a great addition to the worthy American Poets Project.

Another excellent volume from the American Poets Project
Format: Hardcover
As stated in another one of my reviews, every single Library of America volume I've ever purchased (including volumes from the American Poets Project) have been of the highest quality, superbly executed and just plain beautiful. Already possessing several volumes of William Carlos Williams work, I purchased this compact, delightful volume as a gift for my oldest son (who shares my appreciation for both great literature generally, and poetry specifically). Upon its arrival (delayed, once again, by amazon's ridiculously slow delivery) I was more than pleased, and felt proud to be presenting my son with such a first rate representation of W.C.W.'s work.

they are still as good as they were when they were first written
Format: Kindle
I've been reading William Carlos Williams since the seventies. His poetry was ground breaking at the time of there release, and to me, they are still as good as they were when they were first written. His portrayals of every day people and pastoral scenes are still worth reading. His rhythms in his short poems are worth studying for any poet. I recommend reading his selected Poems.
