Here's a story about a family that comes from Tijuana and settles into the 'hood, hoping for the American Dream.. . . I'm not saying it's our story. I'm not saying it isn't. It might be yours. "How do you tell a story that cannot be told?" writes Luis Alberto Urrea in this potent memoir of a childhood divided. Born in Tijuana to a Mexican father and an Anglo mother from Staten Island, Urrea moved to San Diego when he was three. His childhood was a mix of opposites, a clash of cultures and languages. In prose that seethes with energy and crackles with dark humor, Urrea tells a story that is both troubling and wildly entertaining. Urrea endured violence and fear in the black and Mexican barrio of his youth. But the true battlefield was inside his home, where his parents waged daily war over their son's ethnicity. "You are not a Mexican " his mother once screamed at him. "Why can't you be called Louis instead of Luis?" He suffers disease and abuse and he learns brutal lessons about machismo. But there are gentler moments as well: a simple interlude with his father, sitting on the back of a bakery truck; witnessing the ultimate gesture of tenderness between the godparents who taught him the magical power of love. "I am nobody's son. I am everybody's brother," writes Urrea. His story is unique, but it is not unlike thousands of other stories being played out across the United States, stories of other Americans who have waged war--both in the political arena and in their own homes--to claim their own personal and cultural identity. It is a story of what it means to belong to a nation that is sometimes painfully multicultural, where even the language both separates and unites us. Brutally honest and deeply moving, Nobody's Son is a testament to the borders that divide us all.

Not that great
Huge "The Simpsons" fan. I watched all the episodes and read a lot of the comics and enjoy most. This one however was quite boring. Turns out I'm just not a big fan of Chief Wiggum. I really enjoyed The "Homer" and "Bart" book. But not this one. Maybe if you love Wiggum you'll love it. If you're not too fond of him then I wouldn't buy it.

Good for my collection.
Format: Hardcover
This was another quick and entertaining read. This instalment wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other books but it was still good. I'm glad to have it in my collection.

SO GOOD!
Format: Audiobook
I haven’t read a YA or a thriller in such a long time so having both of these combined in one book was an absolute pleasure because it was such a fun book to read! This is my first full length novel by this author, I’ve read MANY of her fanfiction writings and they are truly top tier, and I knew this would be just as good as, if not better. And to no surprise, it was. There was a plethora of secrets and a ton of mystery sewn in throughout this book. It kept me guessing the entire time, which I absolutely love about thrillers. It took me a little bit to get into it after the first few chapters but once I did, I was thoroughly sucked into it. I read from chapter 5 on in one sitting.
That epilogue.. SO GOOD! And I really want more. I highly recommend this if you’re looking for an intriguing, easy, filled with mystery, suspense, and something different.
P.s. I would thoroughly enjoy a romance book between Jodi and Julian. PLEASE AND THANK YOU!

please tell me there’s a second book
Format: Kindle
Stayed up until 3 a.m. trying to finish this book—that’s how hooked I was. I almost gave it 4.5 stars because the ending didn’t fully land for me, but hearing there might be a second and third book sealed it. Five stars.
Please tell me there’s more coming. Juliann’s ending has been living rent-free in my head ever since.
