Epidemics and Enslavement is a groundbreaking examination of the relationship between the Indian slave trade and the spread of Old World diseases in the colonial southeastern United States. Paul Kelton scrupulously traces the pathology of early European encounters with Native peoples of the Southeast and concludes that, while indigenous peoples suffered from an array of ailments before contact, Natives had their most significant experience with new germs long after initial contacts in the sixteenth century. In fact, Kelton places the first region-wide epidemic of smallpox in the 1690s and attributes its spread to the Indian slave trade. From 1696 to 1700, Native communities from the Atlantic Coast to the Mississippi Valley suffered catastrophic death tolls because of smallpox. The other diseases that then followed in smallpox's wake devastated the indigenous societies. Kelton found, however, that such biological catastrophes did not occur simply because the region's Natives lacked immunity. Over the last half of the seventeenth century, the colonies of Virginia and South Carolina had integrated the Southeast into a larger Atlantic world that carried an unprecedented volume of people, goods, and ultimately germs into indigenous villages. Kelton shows that English commerce in Native slaves in particular facilitated the spread of smallpox and made indigenous peoples especially susceptible to infection and mortality as intense violence forced malnourished refugees to huddle in germ-ridden, compact settlements. By 1715 the Native population had plummeted, causing a collapse in the very trade that had facilitated such massive depopulation.

Great for Travel - Perfect Size and Comfortable!
Color: White, Size: Medium
After trying to find a neck pillow for travel and many returns, I purchased this pillow. I love it! I have a long and thin neck and all the neck pillows did not provide enough support and constantly rotating the neck pillow does not work for me. Switching to this pillow was my answer. It came compressed and I followed the instructions (15 min in the dryer on low with a couple of dryer sheets). The pillow fluffed right up and is super comfortable and supportive. There is no smell. The cover is very soft (a must!). It easily compresses into the provided bag so easy to travel with. It's also the perfect size, small enough to easily travel with, and large enough to provide support. I recommend it.

Soft, Comfortable, and Great for Camping
Color: Grey, Size: L-23 X 16 Inch
I bought this travel pillow for my son’s first camping trip, and I was really impressed. It’s incredibly soft, nice and fluffy, and made a big difference in keeping him comfortable overnight. It was such a hit that I think his dad was a little jealous I didn’t get him one too! It also packed up easily and fit back into its bag without a struggle, which is a huge plus when you’re camping. It held up well during the trip and did exactly what we needed it to do. My only criticism is that it’s a little pricey for what it is. That said, once you feel the quality and comfort, you can understand why. Overall, I would definitely recommend it.

Comfy and practical
Color: Grey, Size: S-16 X 12 Inch
The best travel pillow for anyone looking for an actual pillow and not just neck support. We have used it on several trips both on a plane and in the car and it is great for both!
