About the Work:
Lincoln Fay’s Journal is a new letterpress edition made in collaboration with Nancy Buchanan and Wavelength Press. Lincoln Fay’s Journal (2023) is closely tied to the artist’s family history as are her book works, Fallout from the Nuclear Family (1980) and Mother (1979), both in the Getty Research Institute collections. Buchanan’s great-great-grandfather was Lincoln Fay, an abolitionist who built a house in Portland, New York in 1860, with three cellars used as Underground Railroad stations. Fay also left a journal, written in 1830-1831, which primarily documented the brooms he made and included entries written in a simple code. A partial translation of text in code on this page reads, “O Lord I beg of thee to answer my prayers.”
“Lincoln Fay’s journal is a family heirloom,” notes Buchanan. “He was my grandmother’s grandfather. Many entries are related to Lincoln’s making and selling or trading brooms, for which he raised his own broomcorn (a type of sorghum.) Some pages are written in part or whole in a simple code, which is the alphabet backward.

About his journal, Lincoln said:
Looking at the waste of past time and considering it a duty to improve my time whilst heaven lends me the blessing of health it always gives my life pleasure at night to look back on a profitable good day’s labour. Therefore, I conclude in old age it will be pleasant for me to see what I have been about since I commenced business in life for myself. Accordingly, I now [on] the 25th of Nov. commence a day book.

My dog likes it!

My aggressive chewer loves it! I have a 20 pound rat terrier ....small was recommended, but we went with a medium. He went to work on it right away. He is not picky about chew bones but it makes me feel better that it is a natural material. The chewed photo is about 30 mins after giving it to him.

Power Chewer Loves This!
Size: Medium, Color: Antler
This is my dog's new favorite chew! She loves that she can hold it in her paws. I think she really loves the taste and texture of it. I don't give her antlers as I have heard too many horror stories about broken teeth. I also don't give her nylon toys as I have also heard a lot of horror stories of broken teeth as well as concerns about them digesting the plastic. This is between antlers and bully sticks, which is perfect for a power chewer. I feel comfortable with her eating the pieces that flake off this toy. She loves chewing and she will default to this toy when she wants to help calm down. I don't notice much of a smell. It does flake, but not enough I will even take a star off. Plus, it's plant based and vacuums up easily once dried. It doesn't capture her attention as much as bully sticks or beef cheek chews, but it's much less expensive over time and doesn't stink up our living room! She will also always pick this over any of her rubber chews. Great product and recommend it for all the power chewers.

Crumbly, odd texture

Neither of my dogs were very interested in these. They did chew on the antler-shaped versions more so than the infinity-style versions. When they did chew on these, they didn’t hold up well or last long. These have a strange, crumbly texture when chewed. You’ll find bits and pieces of these chews where the dogs have been chewing. Will not be reordering.
