By: Teju ColeA blazingly intelligent first book of essays from the award-winning author of Open City and Every Day Is for the Thief
NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY
Time • The Guardian • Harper's Bazaar • San Francisco Chronicle • The Atlantic • Financial Times • Kirkus
Finalist for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay and PEN/Jean Stein Book Award
With this collection of more than fifty pieces on politics, photography, travel, history, and literature, Teju Cole solidifies his place as one of today’s most powerful and original voices. On page after page, deploying prose dense with beauty and ideas, he finds fresh and potent ways to interpret art, people, and historical moments, taking in subjects from Virginia Woolf, Shakespeare, and W. G. Sebald to Instagram, Barack Obama, and Boko Haram. Cole brings us new considerations of James Baldwin in the age of Black Lives Matter; the African American photographer Roy DeCarava, who, forced to shoot with film calibrated exclusively for white skin tones, found his way to a startling and true depiction of black subjects; and (in an essay that inspired both praise and pushback when it first appeared) the White Savior Industrial Complex, the system by which African nations are sentimentally aided by an America “developed on pillage.”
Persuasive and provocative, erudite yet accessible, Known and Strange Things is an opportunity to live within Teju Cole’s wide-ranging enthusiasms, curiosities, and passions, and a chance to see the world in surprising and affecting new frames.

“On every level of engagement and critique, Known and Strange Things is an essential and scintillating journey.”—Claudia Rankine, The New York Times Book Review (Editors’ Choice)

“[Known and Strange Things] showcases the magnificent breadth of subjects [Cole] is able to plumb with . . . passion and eloquence.”—Harper’s Bazaar

“Cole has fulfilled the dazzling promise of his novels Every Day Is for the Thief and Open City. He ranges over his interests with voracious keenness, laser-sharp prose, an open heart and a clear eye.”—The Guardian
“Remarkably probing essays . . . Cole is one of only a very few lavishing his focused attention on that most approachable (and perhaps therefore most overlooked) art form, photography.”—Chicago Tribune
“There’s almost no subject Cole can’t come at from a startling angle. . . . His [is a] prickly, eclectic, roaming mind.”—The Boston Globe
“[Cole] brings a subtle, layered perspective to all he encounters.”—Vanity Fair
“In page after page, Cole upholds the sterling virtue of good writing combined with emotional and intellectual engagement.”—The New Statesman
“[Known and Strange Things possesses] a passion for justice, a deep sympathy for the poor and the powerless around the world, and a fiery moral outrage.”—Poets and Writers

Crisp mic
Style: QuadCast 2 S
A great mic. Captures my voice with crisp quality. My only grievance is having to set how much it picks up every single time I use it.

Fantastic USB Mic for Gaming, Podcasts & Content
Style: QuadCast S
I’m really happy with this HyperX QuadCast S USB microphone, it delivers clear, rich audio whether I’m streaming, recording podcasts, or chatting with friends. The RGB lighting is a fun visual feature that adds personality to my setup, and I love that it’s customizable via software.
The built-in shock mount and pop filter help reduce background noise and bumps, so my recordings sound much cleaner without needing extra accessories. The tap-to-mute sensor and LED indicator are super convenient for quick control during streams or meetings.
It’s also very easy to set up, just plug in with the included USB-C cable and you’re ready to go on PC, PS4, PS5, or Mac. The multiple polar pattern options give flexibility depending on what I’m recording, and overall the mic feels solid and high quality.
This makes a great gift for any creator, streamer, or podcast host, both functional and stylish. Highly recommend!

It's fantastic. It's just not quite perfect.
Color: Black, Size: Full Size
Update after almost 2 years of ownership:
I've gotten very used the the height of the full height keyboard wrist rest. I can't go back to a smaller one. It's super comfortable. I bought a second one for work and 2 mouse wrist rests to go along. All of them are built fantastically. They clean easily. If something happened to one of the ones I already have, I would come straight back here to buy another of the same one. On point #2 in my original review below, I still wish the edges weren't tapered so much, but I have gotten used to it. I gave in and offset the wrist rest from the keyboard. Not ideal, but it gets the job done.
Bottom line: would recommend any time.
Original review:
The build quality is good. The fabric is nice and soft. The bottom keeps it from sliding. It seems great, overall. I have only 2 problems with this thing:
1. It's too thick. I should have gone with the thinner one. Maybe it'll wear out a bit and my hands will lower into a position with which I'm more comfortable.
2. The left and right sides taper off. It's fine that the front and back do, but having the sides tapered means that if I center this along the bottom of my keyboard and rest my hands to type, my left hand is partially sloping off to the left side, off of the rest. Obviously this is easily fixed by sliding the rest to the left of center, but I've got a compulsion about things lining up and this really really digs into my brain badly.

By about last year I started looking at more pricey wristpads like the leather wrapped ducky and several other imitations online
Color: Black, Size: Full Size, Color: Black, Size: Full Size
I've been using Grifiti wristpads for a few years now at home and work. I buy a replacement every 6/9 months due to them getting absolutely filthy and having the top fabric falling apart. By about last year I started looking at more pricey wristpads like the leather wrapped ducky and several other imitations online. I decided to wait and at one point heard of Glorious although I was on a new set of Grifiti's so didn't think a lot of it.
So the time came for new pads (once again!) and when I was checking for alternatives to the Grifiti (and the Leather from EliteKeyboards, Ducky, Filco, and other wristpads -- sheesh, I'd think I was talking keyboards there with names). Then I came across the Glorious and recalled its a higher quality wristpad so I decided to order a full and compact to use at work. Definitely very happy with them so far and by 6 months and a year then I'll see how they hold out.
Pros:
* Cushion-y soft great for resting and supporting wrists, hands, or an arm on
* Firm without being too hard or soft
* Cloth wrapped so they're not going to wear apart like a Grifiti
* Cloth is sewed to the base and not glued by inspection
* Doesn't slide, there's a textured non-slick rubber on the bottom. Great on my work desk!
* Good price, the leather imitation glued to a base starts at $30+ dollars and they go up to $70
Cons:
* None so far!
I'll be buying 1 more for home use in a month as im using both full and compact at work. The compact size matches up well with my mouse pad there although you may want to measure if you do this. May Gaben be with you!
