【如何閱讀這本書】
1）先把書大聲讀一遍
全書都有附注音，小小孩可自行朗讀（還不熟悉拼音的孩子，前幾次可能需要大人從旁協助）。對於剛開始學認字的孩子來說，朗讀的「協助認字」效果會非常好，是很重要的學習方法。
2）仔細「看」每一頁的圖
圖文書的好處就是可以「用圖解釋故事」，認字有限的孩子可透過圖片理解句意，增強理解力及學會觀察。
另外，也可以提示孩子們「找一找」小怪獸在哪裡，書裡提到的人事物又在哪裡。讓書的效能提升到最高。
3）試著為小怪獸們配音
例如，大尖牙是怎麼講話的？碎碎念又會是怎樣語氣？藉此激發想像力，讓每一次閱讀都有不同的樂趣。
4）引導孩子換位思考
不只是看比利如何渡過小難關，還可以試著與孩子討論：如果是我們遇到這種狀況，該怎麼辦才好？
例如聖誕節的故事裡，強調的就是「道歉的方法」，透過情境式代入，可以預先培養孩子們的臨場反應。

看影音長大的孩子，對於文字多的書籍容易產生距離感。
這本書的「輕薄、圖多、字少」是它在歐美廣受歡迎的一大原因。字數少少，即使是反覆地讀也不會有太大的壓力，十分推薦給剛開始學習閱讀的孩子。
