artist biography
Karl Fred Andersson was born 17 February, 1921 in Nederkalix, Norrbotten. He was a Swedish painter and print maker.
Andersson grew up in Norrbotten, but moved with his family as a child to Chicago in the USA , where they lived from 1928 to 1936, before his father died and they returned to Sweden.
As an artist Andersson was self-taught, but he took private art study trips to France, Spain, Andorra, Norway, England, Italy, Greece and Egypt. Much of his work is characterised by vivid colours, and an intense Impressionist "flickering" style.
From his debut in Stockholm in 1950, he has participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions, primarily in Norrland and the Stockholm region, including shows at Liljevalchs, Unga tecknare at the National Museum, Fotboll i konsten vid Fotbolls-VM (Football in Art at the World Cup) in Solna in 1958, and with the Konstnärernas Samarbetsorganisation (Artists' Cooperation Organisation).
Examples of Andersson’s work are held in public collections of numerous institutions including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Norrköping Art Museum, Norrbotten Museum in Luleå, the National Museum, in Stockholm and at Sundsvall Museum.
He also produced public works including pieces at Norrbotten's Ironworks in Luleå from 1962, and at LKAB 's mine in Kiruna in 1964.
He passed away at the age of 68 on 17 March, 1989 in Stockholm.
