Wool is an incredibly resilient fibre, but it requires gentle handling in water as it will felt with heat and movement, so is best not to wash it too often. Because of wool’s natural antibacterial properties, it pretty much takes care of itself, just give it a shake and air it on the washing line on a grey day to freshen up.

Sarah Tyssen is based is Surrey where she designs on a 16 shaft Louet Megado dobby loom in her workshop. She hand weaves a sample piece of each design and colour, then calculates yarn quantities for production, has the yarns dyed, and then produces very detailed specifications for the mill. She works very closely with them to achieve the same finish as her hand woven samples. Using power looms for small-scale production means she can concentrate on the designing, which is the part of the weaving process she enjoys most.
