Born on July 30, 1958, in Havana, Cuba, José Fors moved to Mexico City in 1967 and later spent his adolescence in Guadalajara, Jalisco. In 1990, he co-founded the musical group CUCA, a landmark band in Mexico’s rock and hard rock scene. Fors has had a prolific career, including over 63 solo exhibitions, 42 group exhibitions worldwide, and more than 20 recorded albums.

Since 1991, Fors has exhibited annually in his studio, and in 2004 the University of Guadalajara published José Fors 25 Years alongside a major retrospective at the University’s Museum of the Arts. Today, he works in Zapopan, Jalisco, where he lives with his wife and son, Jack.
