The AG Lifter Dulcet 19 Isolation Feet technology is the result of extensive research and experimentation in the field of resonance mitigation. Designed and engineered to be the next level in audio isolation, the technology incorporates a decoupled mechanical 316 grade stainless steel ball sitting in anodised billet aluminium componentry with two layers of a proprietary nitrile compound. This system absorbs and converts harmonic and air-borne vibrations into heat. There is no physical connection between the ball and the base of the assembly. Rather than resonate and add its own vibrations into the environment like a standard shelf, the Dulcet 19 mitigates the resonances, removing the harmful vibrations from the component.

Features

Each AG Lifter Dulcet Isolation Foot is comprised of the following five components that are assembled by hand in order to make a great isolation device.

  1. The Bearing: The stainless steel 316 bearing is sourced from Japan and has been chosen for its live nature and open sound stage. Many different bearing materials were tested during the design phase.
  2. The Top Section: Billet 6061 alloy has been used in the standard AG Lifter Dulcet Isolation Foot which has been chosen for its dampening properties. The alloy is CNC-machined, polished and then anodized in a black gloss finish. Anodizing is preferred over powder coating because of the durable 15 micron deep coating that the anodised finish provides for years to come.
  3. The Centre Section: This is the most technical section of the AG Lifter Dulcet Isolation Foot, with months of research and development having been invested in this area. Testing proved that hardness and dimensionality alone are not perfect characteristics for the dampening material. A Nitrile-moulded section was finally developed, with the formulation being proprietary to AG Lifter. The formulation, heat application, curing time and pressure are all carefully documented and repeated every time that batches are manufactured, thus ensuring a consistent high-quality product. Urethane was considered, however its life span over time in UV light was unacceptable.
  4. The Bottom Section: The bottom section the AG Lifter Dulcet Isolation Foot is manufactured from the same material as the top section and changes depending on the particular Dulcet model. A stainless steel 304 tensioning screw is included which is factory-tensioned and does not require any further tensioning by the user. The thread in the bottom section base also allows for a longer set screw to be used for fitment to the AG Lifter Crescendo and AG Lifter Euphonious audio racks (for upgrade options). Spare screws are provided for dealers to set up racks for clients.

Why do isolation devices improve sound quality?

The presence of vibrations of various frequencies, also known as ‘resonance’ or ‘harmonics’, can be very harmful to the performance of audio components. In a music system, resonance can be ground-borne (be transmitted into the system up from the floor), air-borne (be transmitted into the system from the air surrounding the system) or originate from the actual audio equipment. Factors such as transformers, power supplies and electronic components resonate at various frequencies and these vibrations spread throughout the component internally and then out to the rack and through the rest of the system, mixing with vibrations caused by other pieces of equipment.

The performance of audio components are affected by these vibrations and in some cases they micro-phonically pick up these frequencies and repeat them, causing reverberations. The presence of resonances in a music system can result in a higher noise floor, ghosting effect, low level hum, a smearing, or lack of clarity of sound, blurriness or hard, glassy edge to your music. Isolation devices mitigate these resonances, thus allowing the equipment to operate the way it was designed and to perform optimally.

What are the effects of adding the Dulcet 19 Isolation Feet to your music system?

  • The sound becomes tonally correct and with increased weight, scale and authority.
  • Sound stage height, width and depth is expanded.
  • Quieter background, lower noise floor.
  • Imaging improves and the sonic presentation ‘snaps’ into focus.
  • A deeper, tighter bass performance with increased definition.
  • More ‘organic’, or natural textures.
  • An increase in detail across all frequencies.

Truly, the best we could do
Format: Kindle
An excerpt from my analysis essay I submitted for my literature course: By revisiting her family’s past from before, during, and after the Vietnam War, she gained a deeper understanding of the emotional burdens her parents carried and the sacrifices they made that defined the entirety of their lives. Bui’s illustrated graphic memoir reveals that trauma does not simply disappear over time; instead, it becomes inherited, processed, and transformed. Through this process, Thi Bui is able to move toward empathy for her parents, acceptance of who they are, and a more complete sense of self.

Phenomenal. A must-read!
Format: Paperback
I first learned about this book only a week ago when visiting my sister for Thanksgiving in Eugene, Oregon. We went to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art where I saw some work on display by the author, and there was a copy of her book available to look at, so I perused through and decided to buy it and read it. I'm so glad that I did! This is an incredible, poetic story that spans four generations, multiple wars and conflicts, and examines the fragility of the author's relationship with her parents and with her sense of place and motherhood. This book is one of the best I've read in a long time, and the art is moving and beautiful. It gave me new insight into the struggles of refugee life, and created a truly relatable narrative. I devoured this story in one Saturday. I highly recommend it.

A well composed memoir
Format: Paperback
Full review on nguyentoread.com The Best We Could Do is Thi Bui's graphic memoir. Thi was born in Vietnam three months before the Vietnam War reached what we consider to be the end of the war. She came to America with her family in 1978. Bui's memoir spans multiple generations. In learning of her mother's and father's pasts, we learn the history of their parents. We see the struggles and pains of two people from very different walks of life trying to live during a time of war and chaos. We see glimpses of the agony everyone in the middle of the Vietnam War faced. Those who were not directly involved on either side but were caught in the middle of larger powers at war. This memoir more closely details the lives of her parents leading up to them arriving in America and making their life there. I was unsure if this memoir would focus largely on the experience of being a Vietnamese immigrant in America. There were parts that showed how it was for Bui's parents in a country where tensions were still high after the Vietnam War, where discrimination largely due to that was overt, and where degrees were not recognized and people who had spent their lives working and creating careers for themselves were not qualified for most work and had to hurdle multiple challenges to learn a language and complete education all over again if they wanted to provide a better life for their children. What Bui so beautifully captures in this memoir is the why behind how her parents were in raising her. Although Bui was born in Vietnam she was young when her family arrived in America. So I think her experience is one that many first generation Vietnamese-American people of my generation can understand and sympathize with. The wanting to know why their parents are the way they are but unable to ask because many have parents, like Bui's mother, who reluctantly share their stories and don't allow their children that glimpse that could help them better understand. In the panel which was most poignant to me, Bui draws her father as he looks over her work that would become The Best We Could Do. He says "You know how it was for me. And why later I wouldn't be... normal."
