Glass-fibre reinforced HT-PLA for the workshop with heat stability up to 130°C right off the printer and high HDT after annealing.

Not everyone has the capability to print in high temperature filaments such as PETG, ASA or Nylon and some hobbyists and educators choose to only print in PLA. As we all know - PLA has always deformed in the heat, limiting the applications for these users. Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF offers ABS-like heat resistance after annealing while maintaining PLA's ease of printing. It’s ideal for applications requiring high thermal stability, withstanding temperatures up to 130°C without load and up to 110°C with a load. The high softening temperature is achieved before annealing, but the heat deflection temperature is achieved through a very short annealing process (30 minutes at 100°C).

Features

  • High Heat Stability - Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF delivers high heat stability up to 130°C right off the printer, no post-processing required. Heat stability refers to the ability to remain dimensionally stable at elevated temperatures under no or minimal external load other than its own weight.
  • ABS-like Heat Resistance - For applications under load, users can quickly increase the heat resistance of Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF by annealing parts in an oven at 100°C for 30 minutes. The glass-fibre reinforcement in Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF significantly minimises shrinkage during annealing, an issue that many generic HT-PLA materials face. With a high heat deflection temperature, Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF is the perfect choice for power tool accessories, custom PC & printer components, heat shields and fan ducts.
  • Glass Fibre Reinforced - Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF is glass fibre reinforced which significantly boosts tensile strength and stiffness for a wide range of functional applications that also require heat stability or heat resistance. It is worth noting that HT-PLA-GF exhibits lower z-axis layer adhesion compared to normal PLA. This is fairly standard for glass-fibre reinforced materials, but worth noting as the reduction in Z axis strength is not ideal for some single-wall prints.
  • High Speed Capable - Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF is based on a high-speed PLA formula, enabling high speed printing up to 350mm/s and compatibility with a wide range of 1.75mm diameter machines. An enclosure is not needed for this high temp filament! You simply need a wear resistant nozzle due to the addition of glass-fibres.
  • No Compromise - At its core Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF is a PLA-based multiphase composite, built around NatureWorks PLA so you can expect similar chemical resistance and the same low shrinkage rate as normal PLA. Combining Polymakers innovative R&D technologies, compounding and extrusion systems with Natureworks Ingeo® resins produces a reliable 3D printing filament to print beautiful and accurate models.

Applications

Power Tool Accessories

Every year many 3D printer battery holders, tool holders, trays, custom drawer inserts and vacuum attachments are printed in regular PLA and quickly deform on a hot summer day. Combining the printability of PLA with similar heat resistance to ABS (after annealing), Polymakers four power tool colours deliver the perfect companion for your shed.

Now you can print the perfect range of accessories to suit your needs, or start selling printed accessories for other hardware enthusiasts.

Electronics Housings

The heat resistance of Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF delivers the perfect choice for printing temperature resistant housing, cases and product modifications within the home. With the same ease-of-use as normal PLA, Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF is an accessible option for these hobbyist projects.

Custom Solutions, Jigs and Holders

Whether it be a custom jig for soldering or cutting. You want it to be ready to use when you need it - rather than quickly discovering is softened and deformed on a hot summer day. The high mechanical strength of Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF and the optimised heat resistance after annealing - deliver the perfect companion for these projects.

Printing settings

  • Printer Requirements: Hardened nozzle
  • Printing Temperature: 210˚C - 230˚C
  • Build Surface Material: Works well with most build surfaces i.e Glass, Blue Tape, BuildTak® etc
  • Build Surface Treatment: Can apply Magigoo Original or PVA glue to the build surface to improve adhesion.
  • Bed Temperature: 25˚C - 60˚C
  • Printing Speed: up to 300mm/s
  • Fan: ON
  • Direct Drive:
    • Retraction Distance: 1-3mm
    • Retraction Speed: 20-40mm/s
  • Recommended Support Material:
  • Drying Settings: 60˚C for 6h (Only if the material has absorbed moisture)

For higher temperature stability, you can anneal this material for 30 minutes @ 80-90°C.

The above are printing recommendations based on 0.4 mm nozzle. Please note ideal printing conditions may vary depending on your 3D printer setup. For high speed 3D printers, make sure to increase your extrusion temperature in order to use higher printing speeds.

Compatibility

Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF has been engineered with compatibility in mind to print excellently on a wide range of 3D printers. As the glass fiber in this material is highly abrasive we recommend customers first check that their 3D printer is equipped to print abrasive materials before purchasing this product.

High rigidity materials like Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF work best in set ups where the filament guide system is smooth and as no harsh bends.

Of course with thousands of unique 3d printer models on the market, we can't guarantee each filament type will work with every 3D printer. Slicer experience and setting adjustment is always required to get the most out of a material. Before jumping into an ambitious project we always recommend printing some known calibration tests to build or make adjustments to the filament profile.

Additional tips for HT-PLA-GF

  • Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF is a fairly stiff filament. During printing it is recommended to have a smooth feeding path to ensure optimal feeding. For example we recommend avoiding excessive bending in the filament guide system.
  • Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF features glass fibres that can easily damage a brass nozzle. Nozzles come in many different materials from soft to hard and the heat conductivity of a nozzle can change depending on what material it is made of. Hardened steel is more abrasion resistance than brass or a nickel plated nozzle.
  • Inter-layer strength can depend significantly on your extrusion temperature which is a result of your printing speed, nozzle type and hot end. A higher nozzle temperature / extrusion temperature can offer significant benefits in regards to inter-layer strength.
  • Annealing parts printed in Polymaker™ HT-PLA-GF is not needed for applications where parts are exposed to temperature with no mechanical force (heat stability) Annealing is highly recommended if you need a high heat deflection temperature, please read below.

Annealing HT-PLA-GF

Annealing will have minimal impact on vicat softening temperature, allowing a wide range of low force applications with heat exposure.

For functional applications that will be under force and require heat resistance, we highly recommend annealing which will boost the heat deflection temperature. Annealing is the process of heating up the printed parts at a certain temperature for a certain period of time. Fiberon™ PA6-GF25 displays outstanding mechanical and thermal properties when fully crystallised. The printed part will not reach full crystallisation after the printing process and annealing shortly after the printing process is required to complete this step.

We strongly recommend 100°C, 30 minutes annealing to achieve the best performance of the material.

The glass fibers in HT-PLA-GF help to minimise shrinkage, but to avoid deformation of the prints during annealing, please pay attention to the following:

  1. Before annealing ensure that the temperature in the oven is uniform by pre-heating your oven first and make sure there are no obvious obstructions that cause uneven temperature of the sample.
  2. During annealing, do not touch the sample with your hands or apply any additional load to the sample.
  3. For thin-walled areas with a wall thickness of less than 4mm, you can try to add reinforcing ribs or increase the wall thickness to avoid possible annealing
    deformation.
  4. In principle, the best orientation would be consistent with that during printing.
  5. After annealing time finishes, you don't need to let the model gradually cool. You can just remove the model.

Decent value for the money.
Size: 6FT*6FT, Color: Grey
Was easy to assemble. Instructions were clear. Tools were supplied. It really needs to be assembled wherever you're going to be putting it as it can come apart easily when moved. The cross bars simply fit into open ended plastic 90 degree female ends. Overall for the money and to just have some division in a room it's a good value.

Garbage
Size: 6FT*6FT, Color: Black
This product is absolute garbage! It literally took all day to put it together and if the air conditioning blows on it the wrong way than the whole thing top over and it falls apart. It’s not made of quality material and is very flimsy. The only reason I’m not returning it is because it’s too difficult to put together and I don’t wanna spend that much time trying to take it apart. Do not buy this!

Pretty good, especially for this price point.
Color: Beige, Size: 21.5"- 1 Panel
This is merely a piece of cloth stretched between the frame borders, but it works perfectly. It arrived quickly, all parts present and in good condition. I didn't put the castors on, as it will be more or less always in one position. I simply attached some felt sliders on the bottom to prevent scratching the floor and to allow clearance for the center screw (which is not flush fit). Overall, a reasonable deal for the price point.
