On the left a palm frond fence cuts across the sand flat, which is dotted with clumps of qassis (sedge), salt bushes, and date palms. In the distance above the flat a group of 'arish huts, made of palm fronds (locally called saaf), sit on the slope of a high dune. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
