The Mundu Fruit, scientifically known as Garcinia Dulcis, is a spherical fruit renowned for its tangy taste. It is produced by an evergreen tree that is typically harvested from the wild and used locally as a source of food, medicines, and materials for dyeing.

This fruit boasts a pale yellow, textured, and thin outer skin, with fibrous pulp inside. While it can be eaten raw, it does have a slightly sour taste. The fruits are orange in color, approximately 5 to 8 centimeters wide, and exhibit slightly pointed ends. Inside, you'll find 1 to 5 seeds. The fruits are enjoyed fresh, offering an acidic, soft, and juicy pulp, and they can also be transformed into delightful jams.

In traditional practices, extracts from the fruit are employed as an expectorant to alleviate coughs or to treat scurvy. Crushed roots are used to lower fever and counteract poisoning, while crushed bark and gum resin find application in treating wounds. Pounded seeds are applied to swellings for relief.

The Mundu Fruit goes by various common names, including Baniti, Goruka, Egg Tree, and Rata Fruit. Botanically, it is classified as Garcinia Dulcis and typically begins flowering and fruiting around 4 to 5 years after planting. Its cultivation requires a moderate level of maintenance.

Native retelling of Christmas story
Format: Hardcover
Birth of the Chosen One is a beautiful retelling of the Christmas story. I will say that I struggled with the reading of it from the aspect of years (and years) of hearing and reading the original version. I can see where Birth of the Chosen One could be a good introduction to Christianity for First Nation Peoples or Native Americans. I appreciated that Terry Wildman has both Ojibwe and Yaqui heritage. I also appreciated that the illustrators are members of the Miami tribe. Experience as a tribal member gives these three the authority to present a Native American version of the story. The book closes with a note from Terry Wildman that will help readers keep track of the Native American names in the story. I received a complimentary copy of Birth of the Chosen One. This is my honest review.

Just the most beautiful book
Format: Hardcover
I bought this for me grandchildren to give them a refreshingly different perspective from the traditional Christmas story which most often features white characters which, in all reality, were most definitely brown. It's a treasure, and I'd recommend every family to purchase a copy.
