Victron SmartShunt IP65: Precision Bluetooth Battery Monitoring for Demanding Off-Grid and Mobile Systems

Advanced Battery Management Without a Fixed Display

The Victron SmartShunt IP65 redefines battery monitoring by eliminating the traditional wired display and instead using your smartphone or tablet as the interface. This approach reduces installation complexity and cost while delivering the same high-accuracy measurements expected from Victron. Through the VictronConnect app, you gain real-time insight into battery voltage, current, state of charge, and time remaining, along with 46 days of logged trends to analyse usage patterns and system health.

Designed for 12V, 24V, and 48V systems with a wide 6.5–70 VDC supply range, the SmartShunt IP65 suits lithium, AGM, gel, and flooded lead-acid batteries. Its IP65-rated enclosure protects against dust and water jets, making it a reliable choice for marine, 4WD, caravan, and off-grid solar installations where moisture and vibration are constant challenges.

Why Accurate Current Measurement Matters

Generic battery monitors often rely on voltage alone, which can be misleading under load or during charging. The SmartShunt IP65 uses a precision shunt resistor to measure current with ±0.4% accuracy and a resolution of 0.01 A, ensuring your state-of-charge reading reflects true energy flow. This eliminates guesswork, prevents unexpected battery depletion, and helps you size your system correctly—whether you're running a fridge in a camper trailer or managing a large lithium bank in a remote solar installation.

Built for Harsh Australian Conditions

From the corrosive salt air of coastal cruising to the red dust of outback tracks, the SmartShunt IP65 is engineered to endure. The sealed housing, heavy-duty M10 (approx. 3/8") brass connection bolts, and wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +50°C ensure consistent performance. The integrated Bluetooth module maintains a reliable 10–15 metre range, and for installations where metal structures limit signal, an optional VE.Direct Bluetooth Dongle can be added.

Key Features

  • Integrated Bluetooth – Wireless monitoring and configuration via the free VictronConnect app on iOS and Android
  • IP65 Water and Dust Protection – Suitable for engine rooms, bilges, and exposed outdoor locations
  • Auxiliary Input – Monitor a second battery voltage, battery temperature (with optional sensor), or midpoint deviation for battery bank health
  • VE.Direct Port – Wired connection to GX devices (e.g., Cerbo GX) for internet-based monitoring and system integration
  • 46-Day Trend Storage – Review historical voltage, current, and state-of-charge data to optimise energy usage
  • Ultra-Low Power Draw – Consumes less than 1 mA, preserving battery capacity during storage
  • Wide Voltage Compatibility – Operates from 6.5 to 70 VDC, covering 12V, 24V, and 48V battery systems
  • High-Resolution Measurements – 0.01 A and 0.01 V resolution with ±0.4% current accuracy for precise energy management

Simplified Installation and Setup

The SmartShunt IP65 combines the shunt and monitoring electronics into a single compact unit, reducing wiring and potential failure points. Two 1.5-metre fused cables are included for the positive supply and auxiliary input, while the VE.Direct cable is pre-fitted for connection to a GX device. A QR code on the housing provides instant access to manuals and pairing instructions, and the VictronConnect app guides you through battery configuration in minutes.

Applications

This battery monitor is ideal for anyone who needs accurate, real-time battery data without a dedicated display:

  • Marine and Boating – Track house and starter batteries, with optional temperature sensing for optimal charging in engine compartments
  • 4WD and Caravan – Monitor auxiliary batteries running fridges, lights, and inverters, and avoid deep discharges that shorten battery life
  • Off-Grid Solar – Integrate with Victron GX devices for remote monitoring of cabins, tiny homes, and remote telecommunications sites
  • Commercial and Industrial – Manage backup battery banks for security, monitoring, and critical loads with trend logging for maintenance planning

SmartShunt IP65 vs. Traditional BMV Monitors

While the SmartShunt IP65 shares the same measurement core as the BMV-712, it omits the physical display, programmable relay, and audible alarm. Instead, all alerts and data are accessed through the VictronConnect app or a connected GX device. This makes the SmartShunt IP65 a cost-effective, space-saving solution for systems where a dedicated display is unnecessary, and the IP65 rating adds environmental resilience not found in standard BMV models.

For installations requiring automated load disconnect or generator start, a BMV with relay may be more suitable. However, for pure monitoring with maximum durability, the SmartShunt IP65 excels.

Take Control of Your Energy System

Equip your battery system with the precision and reliability of Victron monitoring. Whether you're crossing the Nullarbor or anchoring in a remote bay, the SmartShunt IP65 gives you the data you need to manage your power with confidence. Order today and experience the clarity of true battery intelligence.

delightful read
Format: Kindle
What a delightful read. The characters are awesome, the plot was so good, I loved it. I was intrigued and it kept me wanting more. Told in multiple pov, the book sucks you in and doesn’t let go. I cannot wait to read the next book.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
