KEY 100 Metre Roll of 8B&S (7.9mm²) Twin Core Automotive Cable for Reliable 12V/24V Power Distribution

Engineered for Demanding Automotive and Low-Voltage Installations

This 100-metre roll of KEY 8B&S (7.9mm²) twin core automotive cable delivers consistent, low-resistance power for critical 12V and 24V systems. Built with plain annealed copper conductors and V90HT PVC insulation, it is suited to professional installers and enthusiasts wiring caravans, 4WDs, trailers, and marine setups. The twin core configuration simplifies cable runs by combining positive and negative conductors in a single durable sheath, reducing installation time and potential wiring errors.

Rated to 74A at 30°C under JASO D609, this cable handles high-current loads while maintaining voltage stability over long distances. It is commonly selected for 60A continuous-duty circuits such as auxiliary battery charging, inverter connections, and solar regulator wiring. The 100-metre bulk roll provides ample length for large-scale projects or multiple smaller installations, offering a cost-effective solution for workshops and fleet maintenance.

*Note typical de-rating factors apply for bundling and elevated ambient temperatures.

About KEY Tubing & Electrical

KEY Tubing & Electrical (KTE) is an Australian-owned manufacturer with over 60 years of industry experience supplying electrical, cable, tubing, and custom-engineered solutions to industries across Australia and around the world. Based in South Australia, KEY is known for its commitment to quality manufacturing, rigorous quality standards, and reliable products designed for demanding automotive, electrical, industrial, and resource sector applications. KEY continues to support Australian industry with a strong focus on performance, durability, and dependable engineering.

Key Features

  • High-conductivity plain annealed copper minimises voltage drop and resistive heating
  • V90HT insulation rated to 90°C withstands under-bonnet and engine bay temperatures
  • UV-stabilised outer sheath resists degradation from prolonged sun exposure
  • RoHS compliant and manufactured to Australian/NZ standards for safety and reliability
  • 100-metre continuous length reduces joins and waste in extensive wiring runs
  • Red and black core identification simplifies polarity matching during installation

Built for Harsh Australian Conditions

The V90HT PVC insulation is formulated to endure the thermal cycling common in engine compartments, while the UV-stabilised black outer sheath prevents cracking and embrittlement when exposed to direct sunlight. This makes the cable suitable for external runs on camper trailers, roof-mounted solar wiring, and marine deck applications. The oxygen-free copper stranding (96/0.32mm) provides flexibility for routing through tight chassis spaces without compromising current-carrying capacity.

Unlike generic automotive cables that may use copper-clad aluminium or thinner insulation, this product maintains full copper cross-section and consistent wall thickness, reducing the risk of hot spots and insulation breakdown under sustained loads. The 2.4 ohm/km electrical resistance at 20°C ensures efficient power delivery, critical for maintaining battery health in dual-battery systems.

Applications

  • Auxiliary battery charging in 4WDs, caravans, and camper trailers
  • Solar regulator to battery connections for off-grid setups
  • Inverter cabling up to 1000W (12V) or 2000W (24V) with appropriate fusing
  • Trailer and boat wiring for lighting, winches, and electric brakes
  • General low-voltage distribution in sheds, tiny homes, and remote installations

Installation Notes

For optimal performance, select cable size based on total circuit length (positive and negative return) and expected current draw. As a guide, 8B&S (7.9mm²) is suitable for 60A continuous loads over short to moderate distances in 12V systems. Always refer to JASO D609 derating tables when bundling multiple cables or operating in ambient temperatures above 30°C. Professional installation by a qualified auto electrician is recommended for high-current circuits.

Cute for small dogs, but my Malinois made it extinct in minutes
I ordered this plush toy for my Belgian Malinois, and I went into it fully aware of what I was doing. With my dog, “plush toy” basically translates to “short lived prey simulation,” and I’m honestly okay with that because it helps her satisfy that prey drive in a safe, controlled way. She is always under direct supervision when she has toys like this. The toy is cute, and the concept is fun. The wings and textures are engaging, and I can see how the squeaker/crinkle would be exciting for a small or medium dog that actually plays with plush toys instead of immediately performing surgery on them. For my dog though, it was not durable in any sense of the word. Within about 30 seconds, she had both wings ripped off. Within five minutes, the entire thing was shredded and gutted. It did its job as an enrichment “destroy me” toy, but if you’re buying this expecting it to last, it won’t hold up to a strong chewer. It’s also not quite as plush and soft as it looks in the listing photos. It’s more on the lightweight side, which might be fine for smaller dogs, but it felt a bit less cozy than I expected. I’m giving it four stars because it is a cute toy and would probably be a fun, engaging option for the intended size range, especially dogs that aren’t power shredders. For large breeds or dogs with intense chewing styles (or Belgian Malinois energy), just know it’s going to be a very brief relationship.
