Chocolate Oranda Goldfish

There are many different types of fancy goldfish, one popular variety is the oranda goldfish. Chocolate oranda are a breed of goldfish that originate from China, with a prominent bubble-like hood on the head also known as a "wen" or crown. It has a large, long and deep body (they can be as wide as they are long ) accompanied by a long quadruple tail.

Orandas aren’t strong swimmers. As such, they appreciate the most oxygenated waters you can provide. Consider adding air stones to boost the oxygen levels. Planted tanks with enough clear space for swimming are ideal - elodea and Vallisneria are a good choose of plant to use with orandas. When choosing to decorate your aquarium consider objects that wont cause damage to the head (crown/wen) of your oranda.

Chocolate Oranda goldfish make peaceful additions to community tanks and shouldn't cause any problems for the rest of your fish. Oranda goldfish are easy to keep healthy if the tank is clean and they are fed a good diet, making them suitable for beginners.

How big do Chocolate Oranda goldfish get?
A fully grown Chocolate Oranda fancy goldfish usually reaches 15-30cm, around 6-12" inches in length. A high protein feed and a large aquarium will help to achieve maximum growth potential. Care must be taken not to house with smaller fish that can fit in its mouth, when it reaches adult size.

Can you keep Chocolate Oranda goldfish in an outdoor pond?
Chocolate Oranda goldfish, like many fancy goldfish, will survive in temperatures above 16 degrees, which makes them unsuitable for ponds during cold autumn and winter seasons. Many aquarists keep fancy goldfish like Chocolate oranda's in outdoor or indoor ponds during the summer, and transfer them indoors to an aquarium during the winter months.

Features
Approx. supplied size: 3-4" / 7-10cm
Maximum size: 6-12" / 15-30cm
Origin: China
Binomial name: Carassius auratus
Family: Cyprinidae
Temperament: Peaceful
Lighting requirement: Low
Ideal number kept together: 1+

Water conditions
Our conditions: pH 7.5, temp 22°C
Ideal pH: 6.8–8.0
Water flow: low to moderate
Ideal temperature: 16-28°C

Ease of care
Easy to moderate. Sometimes the wen grows enormously, covering the eyes of the goldfish. Due to this, the eyesight may become limited or even blind. Special care should be given to the wen because it is prone to bacterial infections, and may inhibit the oranda's ability to find food. Being a slow-swimmer, ensure Chocolate Orandas are not out-competed for food if kept with fast swimming fish.

Compatibility
Fancy oranda goldfish are compatible with virtually all community goldfish. As they grow, care must be taken not to house with fin-nippers or smaller fish that they are able to fit in their mouth. Mixing oranda's along with Black Moor, Ryukin, Fantails or Pearlscale goldfish is ideal. They are slow swimmers, non-competitive at feeding and very friendly, making them the perfect tank mates. Oranda goldfish are not a schooling fish but will feel comfortable in a tank with a number of their own species. Other compatible tankmates include shoals of white cloud mountain minnows, plecos and corydoras (in warmer tanks).

Diet
Omnivorous. Feed sinking and floating goldfish pellets, flake and broken-up algae wafer. Will also happily eat bloodworm, brine shrimp and other meaty fresh food (frozen is fine)

Breeding

Egg layers. Goldfish typically spawn in late spring to early summer in temperate regions. In indoor aquaria, you are likely to succeed if you give them a cooler period simulating winter, followed by a gradual warming up to imitate the seasons changing. Orandas can be difficult to sex when small; the females have thinner, narrow pectoral fins, and under the caudal fin you will find the vent (the vent is rounder and more pronounced).

Life Span
Chocolate oranda goldfish can live up to 10-15 years in perfect conditions.

Durable Chew Toy That Actually Holds Up to Strong Jaws
Size: Large, Color: Bundle
This is a reliable option for a heavy chewer, especially for a large breed with a strong bite. The material feels tough and well-made, and it stands up well to consistent chewing without immediately breaking down like softer toys tend to do. It also gives a bit of dental benefit by helping reduce plaque and tartar buildup during play, which is a nice bonus since brushing isn’t always realistic. The textured surface keeps it interesting enough to hold attention for a while, and it doesn’t splinter or create a mess. Overall, it’s a solid, durable chew toy that works well for strong chewers who tend to destroy most standard toys quickly.

Ergonomic good, material so, so
Size: Large, Color: Wishbone
Nice ergonomic, but the plastic come off and dog chew it. I had rather have a stronger material adequate for bigger dogs.

Love it, nice for tough chewers, split in half during play
Size: X-Large, Color: Textured Ring, Size: X-Large, Color: Textured Ring
LOVE THIS PRODUCT, would’ve gotten 5 stars but i threw it for my dog and it split in half on contact with the floor. It had lasted us well over 5 months, it’s not his favorite toy but he’ll pick it sometimes, i wouldn’t say it’s unsafe in half just don’t give the smaller parts!
