Scottish merchants were in the vanguard of Scottish emigration to colonial America. In the 17th century, ships would leave Scotland bound for the Americas on trading voyages. The success of voyages led to the settlement of factors and their servants in a given colony. Once the factors had established these outposts, the merchant ships would carry passengers as well as goods. These passengers were, in part, indentured servants who had contracted for work in the colonies and who were shipped and sold there by the shipmasters, who represented the merchants.

Probably the single most important commodity imported from America to Scotland during the colonial period was tobacco, and by the mid-18th century Glasgow virtually controlled the trade. Within the Chesapeake region, factors, who were often the sons of merchants or the gentry, handled operations for the Glasgow establishments. Scottish factors were prevalent in the other colonies as well. While some of the factors eventually returned to Scotland, many chose to remain in the colonies.

This latest book from immigration authority David Dobson identifies many of these merchants and their American representatives. Based on primary sources found in Scotland and in America, Scottish Transatlantic Merchants identifies about 2,500 Scottish expatriate merchants and factors throughout the Americas. In all cases, Mr. Dobson presents the individual's full name, location in the Americas, a date, and the source of the data. Sometimes we are given quite a bit more, as in the case of William Woodrup, "a merchant in Nevis, 1675; merchant from Glasgow who settled in St. Kitts, died there in 1867," or the case of Robert Aitkin, "born in 1734, a merchant from Paisley who settled in Philadelphia during 1769, died there in 1802."

Nice looking medium sized backpack purse
Color: Pink
Although it says nylon in the description, mine is a soft pleather in a soft pink color. Although it has a lot of pockets for storage, it isn't large capacity. It is good for a wallet, phone, water bottle, sandwich, perhaps a cosmetic bag, and that's about it. I do not like pink accessories but this is a creamy light tone of pink and looks nice. The straps are adjustable and very comfortable in the same padded pleather. Lightweight.

Great to take on a trip
Color: Black
We love to cruise and always take an extra backpack with us so we can load up on the travel booty and have a place to put it. Works well as your "one plus" item on the airlines. So the quality on this backpack is just fine. No issues at all. Nothing was falling apart or coming off. Very small when you fold it up which is great for packing in your suitcase. Holds a ton of stuff.... I'd do some shopping to make sure this fits your needs. There are a ton of backpack's in this price range and some appear to have more features.... Also looks... some are cooler looking, but that's just my opinion...even though I'm right... This will do well for you as others will do too... You get a 30 day return policy with this so you could try it out first to see if you like it... if not, return it... nothing to loose...

Decent basic backpack
Color: Green
This is a good, basic backpack. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but it's a solid choice. The sizing is average, it will hold several books and notebooks. The padding felt adequate for most items, but I'm not sure how much I would trust it with an expensive Mac book. The straps were easy to adjust and padded enough. I appreciate that it could be folded up and put into another bag if you needed an extra bag while traveling - it would make a good day pack. Overall a good deal for what it is.

Sturdy, attractive, comfortable, large capacity; lightweight, back strap to fit luggage
Color: Green, Color: Green
There are several good features for this BAGOK Lightweight Nylon Backpack, starting with the attractive green color that I chose. It is light weight and foldable yet has lots of pockets. The stitching is good, and the zippers work nicely. The back adjustable straps have padding and netting for cooling. There is also a handle on top for carrying and a backstrap to fit over luggage. On the front, there are two zippered compartments. The small one at the top could hold a wallet or passport or tickets. The larger front pocket is roomy with the zipper under an overhanging fabric. Inside is lined with black nylon. The frontmost large compartment extends the length and width of the backpack. The larger main compartment is at the back and has padding to safely store a laptop, e reader or other electronics. There are two nylon pockets inside the main compartment on one side. There are two outer side pockets. I was able to fit a water bottle in them when the inside was empty. However, if the entire backpack is filled, I don't think a water bottle will fit. One drawback is the side pockets are not elasticized--they don't stretch. I will use this for day trips and travel. It is too large to be a personal item on airlines, but it could be a carryon. You can get a lot of things in it. The nylon material is sturdy and should stand up to wear. I am short, 5'2" female and I could adjust the straps to be comfortable for me. And it does fold up for storage between uses. This could also withstand daily use for hiking, work or school
