Portugese laurier (Prunus lustanica 'Angustifolia') heeft steeds vaker de voorkeur in de Nederlandse tuinen. De afgelopen jaren is de Portugese laurier erg populair geworden door de luxueuze uitstraling met de glanzende balderen en de mooie dieproze twijgen. Naast dat we de Portugese laurier als haagplant, hebben we ook Portugese laurier in bolvorm. De Portugese laurier bollen staan al erg lang in de grond en worden tweemaal per jaar gesnoeid. Doordat ze zo vaak zijn gesnoeid zijn ze heel erg compact en vol geworden zoals je op de foto's kan zien. Nadat de bollen aangeplant zijn in de tuin raden we aan om minimaal een keer per jaar te snoeien. Hierdoor worden ze nog compacter en dichter. Als de bollen net geplant zijn zijn ze iets kwetsbaarder dan normaal. Daarom is het belangrijk om ze op het begin voldoende water te geven. De kleine bloemetjes van de Portugese laurier zijn wit en hebben een sterke geur. Deze bloemen erg populair voor vlinders en bijen. Let op wel op bij het planten dat de Portugese laurier dat bollen vanaf een diameter van 100 cm lastig te tillen zijn en daarom het beste met een kruiwagen, bolderkar, of kraantje de tuin in kunnen worden gereden.
