Super Bomberman R gebruikt de vertrouwde formule van vroeger: met het hoofdpersonage Bomberman leg je bommen weg en neem je het op tegen vijanden en tegenspelers. Deze game heeft echter een moderne stijl met 3D-levels en realistische graphics. Bovendien kun je het opnemen tegen tegenstanders uit de hele wereld. Er is een Battle-stand voor maximaal acht spelers en een verhaalstand die je in je eentje of met zijn tweeen kunt spelen. In de verhaalstand moeten spelers zich een weg banen door maar liefst 50 levels. Daarnaast is er een nieuwe regel: het is niet langer voldoende om alle vijanden uit te schakelen om een level uit te spelen... Deze laagdrempelige maar strategische game met nieuwe regels en 3D-levels is leuk voor jong en oud.
