Er zijn namelijk wel 970 schapenrassen wereldwijd, waarvan hier vooral de heide- en weideschapen bekend zijn. Deze zijn overigens weer onderverdeeld in vlees- en melkschapen. Op deze stand case met pasjeshouder en magneet aan de binnenkant hebben we een oudere en wat jongere schaap staan. Bekende, en ooit bijna verdwenen rassen zijn het Drents heideschaap en het Mergellandschaap, een weideschaap. Andere rassen in Nederland zijn onder meer het Belgisch melkschaap, de zwartbles en de Texelaar.
