Hij heeft een opgaande groeiwijze met een onregelmatige, gekromde kroon. De geelgroene bladeren zijn hartvormig en zijn 5 7 lobbig. De drie middelste lobben zijn naar voren gericht en hebben een spitste top. In de herfst verkleuren de bladeren naar geelbruin.

De Acer platanoides 'Prigo' (PRINCETON GOLD) is een middelgrote boom die een hoogte van circa 15 meter kan bereiken. Hij heeft een opgaande groeiwijze met een onregelmatige, gekromde kroon. De geelgroene bladeren zijn hartvormig en zijn 5-7 lobbig. De drie middelste lobben zijn naar voren gericht en hebben een spitste top. In de herfst verkleuren de bladeren naar geelbruin. Begin april voor de bladontwikkeling verschijnen er gele bloemen aan de boom. Na de bloei rond augustus tot en met december komen er dopvruchtjes met vleugels. Deze Noorse esdoorn stelt geringe eisen aan de bodem, maar verdraagt geen veen of natte bodems. De boom is goed bestand tegen wind. Hij staat het liefst op een plek in de zon of lichte schaduw. Het is wijs om de Acer platanoides 'Prigo' ofwel Noorse esdoorn 'PRINCETON GOLD' zo weinig mogelijk te snoeien en vooral niet in het voorjaar.
