Beschrijving

De North American B-25 Mitchell is een middelzware Amerikaanse bommenwerper uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Tijdens de oorlog werd dit toestel op alle fronten ingezet, maar voornamelijk boven de Stille Oceaan. 

Een bekende aanval waarbij B-25 Mitchell's werden ingezet, de zogenaamde Doolittle Raid, vond plaats op 18 april 1942. Vanaf het Amerikaanse vliegkampschip USS Hornet stegen zestien B-25B's zonder escorte van jachtvliegtuigen op voor een aanval op Japan. Het had een groot psychologische effect op de strijdende partijen in het Pacifische theater.

De B-25C Mitchell had een iets ander uiterlijk dan de voorgaande versies. De geschutskoepels hadden bijvoorbeeld andere posities. Nederland heeft ook een flink aantal B-25's in verschillende varianten in operationele dienst gehad.
