Annie Clark maakte haar debuut als St. Vincent in 2007 met Marry Me en werd al snel beschouwd als een van de meest innovatieve en fascinerende artiesten in de moderne muziek. Na Actor (2009) en Strange Mercy (2011) won ze in 2014 met haar titelloze vierde album een GRAMMY voor Best Alternative Album. In 2017 volgde met MASSEDUCTION nog twee GRAMMY's (Best Rock Song en Best Recording Package). Haar laatste plaat, Daddy's Home uit 2021, bezorgde haar tenslotte nog een tweede Best Alternative Album GRAMMY. Clarks nieuwste plaat, All Born Screaming, wordt haar eerste volledig zelfgeproduceerde album (nadat ze al haar vorige albums co-produceerde) en toont St. Vincent op haar meest primitieve manier. All Born Screaming is evenveel spirituele verlatenheid als verrukkelijke acceptatie. "Als je schreeuwend geboren wordt, is dat een geweldig teken," zegt Clark, "want dat betekent dat je ademt. Dat je leeft. Mijn god. Het is vreugdevol. En het is ook een protest. We zijn allemaal op een bepaalde manier uit protest geboren. Het is angstaanjagend om te leven, het is extatisch om te leven.
