De Hibiscus syriacus 'Red Heart', ook wel bekend als Altheastruik of Tuinhibiscus, is een betoverende bladverliezende heester die van juli tot september bloeit met grote, witte bloemen met een opvallend rood hart. Deze zomerbloeiende plant trekt niet alleen de aandacht van tuinliefhebbers, maar ook van bijen en vlinders, wat hem een waardevolle toevoeging maakt voor biodiversiteit in je tuin.

Opvallende bloemen en langdurige bloei

Wat de Hibiscus 'Red Heart' uniek maakt, zijn de grote, trechtervormige bloemen met helderwitte bloemblaadjes en een intens rood centrum. De bloei begint in de zomer en houdt aan tot in het najaar. Zelfs in kleinere tuinen komt deze plant goed tot zijn recht, omdat hij langzaam groeit en uiteindelijk een hoogte bereikt van circa 150 tot 250 cm. De compacte groei en rechtopgaande vorm maken hem ook geschikt als haag of solitair in een border.

Standplaats en verzorging

De Hibiscus 'Red Heart' houdt van een zonnige standplaats en een goed doorlatende, voedzame bodem. Hoewel hij redelijk droogtetolerant is, helpt regelmatig water geven tijdens droge periodes om de bloei te bevorderen. In het voorjaar kun je hem licht terugsnoeien om de vorm te behouden en de bloei te stimuleren. Deze hibiscus is goed winterhard en verliest in de winter zijn blad.

Toepassing in de tuin

De 'Red Heart' komt prachtig tot zijn recht als solitaire struik, maar kan ook gecombineerd worden met andere bloeiende heesters in een gemengde border. Dankzij zijn opvallende kleuren is het een echte blikvanger die sfeer en kleur brengt in elke tuin. Ook in grote potten op een terras of balkon doet deze hibiscus het uitstekend.

She had 1 best friend I wish we could have seen a little bit more of their friendship in this book. Her relationship with the male characters was good not to contrived or super instantaneous. And we had some fun plot twists that I didn't expect. I wish we had more of a follow up on the situation with her family her background and her mother who was a wench.
