Viña El Pisón 2021 geldt als een van de iconische single vineyards van Spanje: een wijn die kracht niet zoekt in gewicht, maar in densiteit, precisie en textuur. De geur is complex en gelaagd, met donkere kers, bosbes en viooltjes, aangevuld met laurier, fijne specerijen en een duidelijke steenachtige, kalkrijke indruk.

De smaak is naadloos en geconcentreerd, maar tegelijk opvallend lichtvoetig in zijn beweging. Alles draait om balans: een kern van puur fruit, een strak gespannen structuur en tannines die fluweelachtig aanvoelen maar duidelijk aanwezig blijven. De afdronk is uitzonderlijk lang, met een serene mineraliteit die de wijn groot maakt zonder luid te worden.

Prachtig bij geroosterd lam, côte de boeuf, truffelgerechten, wild of simpelweg bij een bord harde, gerijpte kazen.

Vinificatie.
De druiven worden streng geselecteerd en met veel precisie gevinifieerd om de eigenheid van de wijngaard maximaal te bewaren. De gisting gebeurt met gecontroleerde extractie om finesse en aromatische zuiverheid te behouden, gevolgd door een opvoeding in Franse eiken vaten. De exacte duur van de vatrijping en de daaropvolgende flesrijping voor deze jaargang wordt niet publiek gespecificeerd; wel is duidelijk dat de wijn pas na voldoende kelderrust wordt vrijgegeven om zijn structuur en spanning te integreren.

Het domein.
Artadi, gevestigd in Laguardia (Rioja Alavesa), groeide uit van een lokale coöperatieve traditie tot een van de toonaangevende namen in terroirgedreven Spaanse wijn. Onder leiding van Juan Carlos López de Lacalle verschoof de focus resoluut naar herkomst: afzonderlijke dorpen, specifieke bodems en uiteindelijk individuele wijngaarden als vertrekpunt voor stijl en kwaliteit. Die visie leidde er ook toe dat Artadi bewust buiten de klassieke herkomstkaders ging werken om de identiteit van de wijngaarden vrijer te kunnen communiceren.

In de wijngaarden staat duurzame, natuurgetrouwe landbouw centraal: veel percelen worden zonder chemische meststoffen of pesticiden onderhouden en men streeft naar biodiversiteit en levende bodems. In de kelder sluit die filosofie aan met een precieze, niet-opdringerige aanpak: extractie en houtgebruik worden afgestemd op de jaargang en het terroir, met als doel finesse, spanning en transparantie te bewaren.
